Position Type: Fine Arts/Art - Middle School Date Posted: 4/11/2025 Location: Admn Annex Beaumont independent school district Job Description JOB TITLE: Band Director - Middle School CLASSIFICATION: Exempt REPORTS TO: Principal PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary Scale Choose # of days worked LOCATION: Assigned Campus DATE REVISED: 4/20/2017 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assume direct responsibility under the leadership of the Principal for the organization, administration, and operation of all aspects of the band program in assigned school. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject/level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of instrumental music education and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and mange their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skill
Experience:
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Instructional Management
  • Participate in UIL Concert & Sight Reading and Solo & Ensemble Contest.
  • Encourage and maintain a high percentage of individual participants in Solo & Ensemble Contest and TMEA All-Region Tryouts.
  • Encourage students and schedule time for individual requests for help either before school, during the school day, or after scheduled activities.
  • Assist students in their selection of appropriate Solo & Ensemble pieces.
  • Work with students on their Solo & Ensemble selections beginning the week after All-Region tryouts.
  • Maintain reasonable success rates by preparing organization(s) and individual students for competition.
  • Develop a grading system based on objective criteria and announce it the first of school.
  • Recognize the importance of private study to overall program success. Organize and encourage student participation.
  • Recognize the importance of section rehearsals to overall program success. Establish and maintain a regular schedule of afternoon section rehearsals beginning the week after Solo & Ensemble Contest until the week of UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest.
  • Use program outcomes for corrective action, improvement, and recognition of success.
  • Maintain awareness of all UIL/TMEA rules, dates, deadlines, and forms that will affect the band program.
