Position Summary
Ladgov Corporation is seeking a qualified Museum Curator to support the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme, California. The selected candidate will assist with preserving, documenting, and digitizing the museum's historic artifact collection while working closely with museum leadership and staff. This position plays an important role in improving access to the museum's collection through inventory management, photography, and proper artifact preservation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inventory of museum artifacts and collection storage areas.
  • Unpack, identify, catalog, and repack artifacts using museum preservation standards.
  • Photograph artifacts for digital records.
  • Support the museum's collection digitization efforts.
  • Maintain accurate collection records and documentation.
  • Handle historical artifacts carefully to ensure their long-term preservation.
  • Work with museum staff on special projects and assigned collection activities.
  • Follow established museum collection management procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain organized work areas and ensure proper storage of artifacts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working with museum collections, archives, or historical artifacts.
  • Knowledge of museum collection management standards and preservation practices.
  • Experience with digital photography for documentation purposes.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with museum staff and visitors.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform activities such as standing, bending, climbing ladders, and walking throughout the workday.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • No security clearance required.
  • Ability to work on-site at the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum.
  • Local travel, if required, will be within a 50-mile radius of the museum.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with museum digitization projects.
