What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mural Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mural Designer, you need strong artistic ability, a solid understanding of color theory and composition, and experience with large-scale painting or design, often supported by a degree in fine arts or a related field. Familiarity with digital design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and techniques for surface preparation and weather-resistant materials is typically required. Creativity, collaboration, and effective communication are crucial soft skills when working with clients, communities, and project teams. These skills ensure the creation of impactful, durable, and visually compelling murals that meet client expectations and engage public audiences.

What are some common challenges mural designers face when working on large public projects?

Mural designers often encounter challenges such as navigating complex approval processes with local authorities, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and adapting their designs to fit large, often irregular surfaces. Weather conditions and public visibility can also impact timelines and require flexibility in execution. Additionally, working in public spaces means balancing artistic vision with community expectations, ensuring that the final piece resonates positively with its audience.

What are mural designers?

Mural designers are artists who specialize in creating large-scale artworks directly on walls, ceilings, or other permanent surfaces. They conceptualize, design, and often paint murals for both indoor and outdoor spaces, working with clients to develop themes and styles that suit the environment and purpose of the mural. Mural designers may work independently or as part of a team, and their projects can range from public art installations to private commissions. Their work often involves a combination of artistic skill, knowledge of materials, and understanding of spatial design.

What is the difference between Mural Designer vs Graphic Designer?

While both roles involve visual creativity, Mural Designers focus on large-scale wall art and spatial design, often working on physical projects in public or private spaces. Graphic Designers typically create digital or print visuals for branding, advertising, and media. The skills and credentials overlap in art and design education, but the work environment and project scope differ significantly.

Product Designer For LUMA

The LUMA Product Team builds intuitive, thoughtful, digital experiences that empower teams to apply The LUMA System and human-centered AI in their everyday work. We partner closely with design, engineering, and customer-facing teams to ensure human-centered practices are accessible and impactful. Our culture is collaborative, experiment-driven, and passionate about driving alignment and outcomes at scale. LUMA is Mural's human-centered design practice and is central to Mural's success in helping organizations transform and achieve their goals.

You will work closely with the Director of Design for LUMA to own the vision, strategy, and delivery of capabilities that bring The LUMA System to life on LUMA Workplace, Mural's platform, and LUMA's web surfaces. Your mission is to:

  • Enable users to embed human-centered, AI-supported methods into their everyday work.
  • Seamlessly integrate LUMA into Mural software products and experiences.
  • Provide clear visibility into adoption, impact, and value of LUMA software.

You will combine user empathy, product craft, design skills, and business insight to deliver solutions that help customers achieve tangible results. This role is perfect for a product thinker who is an expert in human-centered design and thrives on shaping experiences that inspire collaboration and measurable outcomes.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and prioritize the LUMA Software roadmap, in close partnership with engineering.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and LUMA practitioners to discover opportunities and deliver features that delight users.
  • Translate user research and feedback into clear product requirements and testable experiments.
  • Design new features and experiences that enhance the user experience.
  • Partner with Customer Success, Marketing, and Enablement to drive product adoption and engagement.
  • Monitor product performance and usage metrics, using data to inform iteration and long-term planning.

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of product design experience, preferably in SaaS or collaboration tools.
  • Familiarity with human-centered design, innovation frameworks, design thinking, or facilitation methods.
  • Product design skills and the ability to contribute to user experience concepts, wireframes, and prototyping.
  • Proven track record of owning product features from discovery through successful delivery.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Experience operating as a product-fluent designer in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
  • Comfort using AI tools to enhance workflows, efficiency, and decision-making.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
