CITY SECRETARY

POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Wilmer is seeking an experienced, organized, and customer-focused City Secretary to serve as a key member of the City's leadership team. The City Secretary provides professional administrative support to the Mayor, City Council, and City Administrator while ensuring compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act, records retention laws, and other applicable statutes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare City Council agendas, packets, minutes, and meeting notices.
  • Maintain official City records, ordinances, resolutions, and contracts.
  • Coordinate compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and Public Information Act.
  • Administer records retention and public information requests.
  • Assist with municipal elections and board appointments.
  • Administer oaths of office and maintain official records.
  • Provide administrative support to the Mayor, City Council, and City Administrator.
  • Respond professionally to citizens, elected officials, and staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience.
  • Municipal government experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working for a Texas municipality.
  • Texas Registered Municipal Clerk (TRMC) or Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience with agenda management and records management software.
