What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Multiphase Flow position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Multiphase Flow role, you need a solid background in fluid mechanics, chemical or petroleum engineering, and experience with modeling and analyzing complex fluid systems. Familiarity with simulation software like ANSYS Fluent, OLGA, or COMSOL, as well as relevant certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer), are often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication abilities are key soft skills for success. These skills are vital for accurately predicting flow behaviors, optimizing processes, and ensuring safety and efficiency in industries such as oil and gas or chemical engineering.

What is a Multiphase Flow job?

A Multiphase Flow job involves the study and analysis of fluids consisting of multiple phases, such as gas-liquid, liquid-solid, or gas-solid interactions. Professionals in this field work in industries like oil and gas, chemical processing, and aerospace, using computational simulations and experimental methods to optimize system performance. They may focus on fluid dynamics, heat transfer, pipeline transportation, or reactor engineering. This role requires expertise in physics, engineering, and numerical modeling tools like CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).

What are some typical daily responsibilities of a Multiphase Flow Engineer?

A Multiphase Flow Engineer typically spends their day analyzing and modeling how different phases (such as oil, gas, and water) interact within pipelines or processing systems. This involves running simulations, interpreting data from field sensors, preparing technical reports, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to solve operational challenges. Engineers in this role also participate in design reviews, troubleshoot flow assurance issues, and recommend optimizations to improve efficiency and safety. The balance between simulation work, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration provides a dynamic and engaging work environment.

Job description

VVater is America's Next Water Company, delivering the future of purification through its award-winning Farady Reactor (CES Best of Innovation 2025, World Future Award 2025), proprietary ALTEP (Advanced Low Tension Electroporation Process), Advanced Dissolved Air Flotation, and Micro & Nano Bubble technologies. Unlike outdated chemical, filter, and membrane systems, VVater's electric-field breakthroughs eliminate PFAS, microplastics, microorganisms, and other contaminants with record retention times, without toxic byproducts or costly consumables.
With over 4.3B gallons treated and validation from global leaders, VVater is scaling into municipal drinking water and wastewater, DPR/IPR, onsite reuse for data centers, commercial buildings, and resorts, residential purification, and consumer health water, delivering a 60% smaller footprint, 40% CapEx savings, 80% OpEx savings, and 40% less energy use.

Job Summary:

VVater seeks an experienced, multi-disciplinary CAD Designer to lead 3D/2D product design and permit-ready documentation for water and wastewater treatment products across multiple U.S. jurisdictions. This role blends mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil/site, and process considerations with high-quality industrial design. You will convert concepts into manufacturable products and PE-reviewable submittals, develop digital twins, support CFD modeling, establish drafting standards, and collaborate with engineering, operations, R&D, fabrication partners, and installers to deliver accurate, code-aligned drawing packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models in AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Civil 3D, and produce disciplined 2D drawings in AutoCAD for housings, enclosures, piping systems, valves, sensors, electrical panels, wiring diagrams, foundations, anchorage, and installation hardware.
  • Generate complete fabrication packages including ASME Y14.5 GD&T, BOMs, cut sheets, DXF/STEP files, exploded views, and assembly/installation instructions.
  • Develop digital twins and perform advanced CFD modeling using Siemens Xcelerator, Siemens STAR-CCM+, and Simcenter for hydraulic behavior, flow modeling, multiphase interactions, bubble dynamics, mixing, retention times, and mechanical integration.
  • Prepare PE-reviewable and permit-ready plan sets for multi-state jurisdictions: site plans, utility tie-ins, trenching and conduit details, grading/drainage, foundations/pads/anchorage, erosion control, clearances, P&IDs (ISA S5.1), hydraulic schematics, electrical one-lines, and panel schedules aligned with NEC and local amendments.
  • Incorporate adopted codes and national standards into drawing packages, including IBC/IRC, IPC/UPC, NEC, ADA/ICC A117.1, NSF/ANSI 60/61/372, AWWA standards, and UL/ETL considerations (UL 50/50E, UL 508A).
  • Apply industrial-design principles to create visually compelling models while maintaining manufacturability and cost efficiency across sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, castings, and purchased components.
  • Conduct fit/clearance checks, interference detection, basic tolerance stack-ups, and light FEA; integrate supplier models and verify against datasheets and critical dimensions.
  • Establish and maintain CAD/PDM standards, templates, detail libraries, layer conventions, symbol sets, and revision control; manage ECNs and as-built documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil/site, and field teams to balance hydraulic, electrical, structural, and installation constraints; support prototypes, pilot systems, redlines, factory/field fit-ups, and rapid design iterations.
  • Prepare complete submittal packages, respond to AHJ review comments, and coordinate with Professional Engineers for design sealing where required (designer will not seal drawings).
  • Work with supply chain and fabrication partners to optimize manufacturability, tolerances, finishes, material choices, and lead times; provide quick-turn drawing updates during sourcing and production.
  • Perform all other duties as instructed by the company.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional CAD experience producing fabrication-ready and permit-ready drawing packages for water treatment, wastewater systems, plumbing/HVAC, civil utilities, industrial equipment, or closely related products.
  • Expert proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Civil 3D, and Fusion 360 (preferred for mechanical assemblies); strong PDM discipline (Fusion Team, Vault, or equivalent).
  • Mastery of ASME Y14.5 GD&T, weld symbols, process schematics, ISA P&ID conventions, and BOM structures; proficiency with Bluebeam (or similar) for markups and submittals.
  • Deep working knowledge of U.S. codes and standards, including IBC/IRC, IPC/UPC, NEC, ADA/ICC A117.1, NSF/ANSI 60/61/372, AWWA standards, UL/ETL pathways, and the ability to interpret and apply local amendments.
  • Strong multi-discipline understanding across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil/site layouts, foundations/anchorage, utility routing, easements/ROW, and drainage considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, attractive, code-aligned drawing sets quickly and respond effectively to AHJ review comments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, operations, R&D, and field installation teams.
  • Nice to have: Navisworks or Revit; basic FEA; familiarity with CAM; experience with NSF/ANSI, UL/ETL, or similar certification packages.

* Please include a portfolio or Showreel for previous work you have executed successfully.
