Position Summary

The Director of Fitness is responsible for the overall performance, growth, and profitability of the Personal Training business across all clubs. This role leads the strategy, execution, and field support necessary to drive Personal Training revenue, increase client acquisition and retention, and ensure clubs consistently achieve staffing, productivity, and financial goals.

A significant portion of this role is spent in clubs working directly with Area Managers, Fitness Managers, and club leadership teams to improve execution, develop talent, support recruiting efforts, and drive business results. The Director of Fitness is accountable for building high-performing Personal Training departments through strong leadership, operational excellence, and consistent field engagement.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Performance
  • Own Personal Training revenue, profitability, and KPI performance company-wide.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase Personal Training sales, active clients, session utilization, and client retention.
  • Monitor business trends and performance metrics to identify opportunities and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with field leadership to drive consistent execution and accountability across all clubs.
  • Support pricing strategies, promotions, and revenue-generating initiatives
  • Primary accountability for Personal Training revenue, profitability, staffing, recruiting, and KPI performance
  • Heavy emphasis on field leadership and in-club support.
Talent Acquisition & Staffing
  • Lead recruiting strategies to attract and retain top fitness talent.
  • Ensure all clubs maintain appropriate staffing levels to support business objectives.
  • Partner with Area Managers and club leadership on hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and succession planning.
  • Develop career pathways that improve trainer retention and advancement opportunities.
Field Leadership & Club Support
  • Spend substantial time in clubs coaching and supporting Area Managers, Fitness Managers, and club leadership teams.
  • Conduct club visits to assess execution, identify opportunities, and drive operational improvements.
  • Ensure consistency in Personal Training sales processes, service delivery, and member experience.
  • Provide hands-on support to underperforming clubs and teams.
Training & Development
  • Lead onboarding and development programs for Fitness Managers and Personal Trainers.
  • Oversee trainer education initiatives, mentorship programs, and performance coaching.
  • Create and implement best practices that improve sales effectiveness, client results, and team performance.
  • Partner with Learning & Organizational Development to create and maintain fitness-related training content.
Strategy & Operations
  • Support the development and execution of company fitness initiatives and programs.
  • Utilize data and reporting to evaluate performance and guide business decisions.
  • Partner with Marketing to increase member engagement and Personal Training participation.
  • Serve as the primary business leader for fitness-related technology platforms and tools.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Fitness, Exercise Science, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Current nationally recognized fitness certification required.
  • Minimum 5 years of multi-unit fitness leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven track record of driving Personal Training revenue growth and operational performance.
