Multi Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a multi manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Multi Manager, you need strong analytical skills, investment management experience, and a relevant finance or economics degree, often supported by certifications like CFA or CAIA. Expertise in portfolio management software, risk assessment tools, and financial modeling systems is typically required. Outstanding decision-making, communication, and leadership skills help in managing diverse teams and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure effective oversight of multiple investment strategies, risk mitigation, and optimal client outcomes.

What is a multi manager?

Multi Managers are investment professionals or firms that construct and manage portfolios by selecting and combining various third-party fund managers or investment strategies. Their main role is to diversify investments across different managers, asset classes, or styles to optimize risk and return for clients. Multi Managers conduct thorough due diligence when selecting fund managers and continuously monitor their performance. This approach allows investors to benefit from a range of expertise and reduces the impact of any single manager's underperformance.

How does a multi manager coordinate with different investment teams to ensure a cohesive portfolio strategy?

A Multi Manager regularly collaborates with various internal and external investment teams to align individual mandates with the overall portfolio objectives. This involves frequent meetings to discuss market outlooks, risk exposures, and performance drivers, as well as leveraging analytical tools to monitor style drift or unintended concentration. By maintaining open communication and using robust reporting frameworks, Multi Managers help ensure that all managers are working towards a unified investment strategy while respecting each team's unique expertise.

By combining development and construction expertise under one roof, the organization offers employees the stability of a consistent project pipeline, strong financial backing, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in communities throughout California.

The company fosters a collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where experienced construction professionals are empowered to take ownership of their projects while working alongside talented development, design, and operations teams.

About the Position

The company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multi-family affordable housing projects from pre-construction through project completion. This is an outstanding opportunity for a construction professional who enjoys autonomy, accountability, and leadership while managing complex, high-profile residential developments.

As the Project Manager, you will serve as the central point of coordination between internal stakeholders, consultants, municipal agencies, subcontractors, and field teams. You will oversee all aspects of project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, compliance, and team leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project schedules, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies to maintain project milestones.
  • Assume full ownership of project financial performance, including budgeting, cost forecasting, buyouts, monthly draws, and change order management.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, contract administration, and performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with affordable housing program requirements, including LIHTC, HUD, prevailing wage, and related regulations when applicable.
  • Coordinate closely with development teams, architects, engineers, municipal agencies, and field superintendents to drive successful project outcomes.
  • Monitor project quality, safety, and documentation standards.
  • Provide regular project reporting to leadership, including financial, schedule, and risk assessments.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing multi-family or commercial vertical construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of high-density wood-frame construction (Type III/V), podium construction, and urban infill site logistics.
  • Proven experience managing project budgets, contract negotiations, cost controls, and schedule management.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Sage, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with affordable housing developments.
  • Familiarity with LIHTC, HUD, prevailing wage, or other affordable housing compliance requirements.
  • Experience working within an integrated developer-builder environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary of $121,000-$167,000.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plan with company participation.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Professional development and career advancement opportunities.
  • Long-term project stability supported by a robust development pipeline.
