Ability to follow written and oral instructions and possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage with the University of South Alabama.

The University of South Alabama's Grounds department is seeking to hire two Groundskeeper Is. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
  • Trims and fertilizes trees and shrubbery.
  • Mows and edges lawns.
  • Picks up trash and debris from grounds.
  • Waters lawns and shrubs as needed or directed.
  • Weeds and tends flower beds, gardens and lawns.
  • Collects, loads, and hauls off trash.
  • Digs holes and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Installs weed fabric and mulch.
  • Stakes and guys trees.
  • Performs solid waste collection campus-wide to include pick up of bagged, boxed or loose materials and transport by truck to dumpsters located throughout campus for unloading.
  • Assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Operates power washer to clean sidewalks and other paved surfaces.
  • Safely applies chemicals to lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and paved surfaces as required.
  • May be responsible for performing groundskeeping and custodial duties in maintaining a small group of buildings and grounds.
  • May be required to operate a tractor or other groundskeeping equipment, as well as a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites or transport materials.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
