CMM Operator - Quality Analyst

Job Description:

The primary function of the person filling the position of Quality Analyst - CMM Operator is to perform part, process, and system audits as well as to conduct part/product dimensional layouts to ensure adherence to the Mueller operating procedures, guidelines, and specifications. Daily documentation, interpretation, and reporting of those findings to the appropriate management function will be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform dimensional inspections using FARO arms, optical inspection equipment, and hand-held measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial-indicators, as well as go and no-go gauges. Understand basic GD&T controls and principles
  • Conduct the Receiving Inspection function on items purchased from outside vendors to determine conformance to specifications.
  • Manage incoming inspection area and process. Work with process to control material and move material.
  • Report out findings on incoming inspections and part layouts to quality, engineering, purchasing, and planning
  • Conduct part/product analysis using mathematical and statistical models. Develop error detecting, error proofing and quality improvement tools and methods.
  • Conduct dimensional and visual layout of parts to determine conformance to specifications. Use of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and other measuring tools as required.
  • Conduct gauge calibration activities as needed and maintain computerized gauge calibration system.
  • Analyze product complaints from Customers for determination of failure and report findings to Supervisor, Quality Manager, and Customer Service as needed.
  • Assist all engineering functions as required regarding product testing, fixture building, identification of MRO purchased items, special projects, and development of QC systems.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts in pass off procedure by documenting actions, irregularities, and continuing operational needs, as well as communicating issues or irregularities to appropriate team lead or supervisor.
  • Keep work areas and department clean and organized.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations and flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel utilizing "Stop, Call, Wait" procedure.
  • Perform any other related duties as directed.

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to interpret technical drawings (datums, dimensions, tolerances, feature controls, etc.)
  • Ability to use and read measure tools (i.e., calipers, micrometers, surface profile gauge, coating thickness gauge)
  • Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize intermediate computer functions and programs including Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associates Degree preferred - or - 3-5 years of Quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have high school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience in inspections in a manufacturing environment a plus. Familiarity with Blueprints, Specifications, 3D applications and Microsoft Office Software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm's length.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
