Job description

MTSI is seeking a highly experienced Functional Area Analyst III to support Department of Defense (DoD) analysis, planning, readiness, and capability development activities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in military operations, operations research, data-driven analysis, and working directly with DoD stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
Responsibilities:
The Functional Area Analyst III will:
• Apply subject-matter expertise in military operations, readiness, logistics, and force structure.
• Support DoD Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) processes.
• Conduct analysis within the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) or equivalent DoD frameworks.
• Collect, maintain, refine, and analyze complex datasets, including force structure, operational readiness, and global logistics.
• Lead analytic and operations research teams performing force structure planning, capability gap assessments, and force posture analysis.
• Interface with senior DoD stakeholders to support data-driven decisions, requirements generation, and strategic planning.
• Use Structured Query Language (SQL) or equivalent tools to query and manage logistics, readiness, and intelligence-related databases.
• Prepare and deliver analytic products, reports, and briefings in support of senior-level decision making.
Required Experience and Education:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in at least two of the following areas:
- U.S. military operations or operations-research-related fields (air/space, ground, special operations, maritime).
- DoD Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE).
- Force and capability development within JCIDS or equivalent DoD systems.
• Minimum of 10 years working with DoD stakeholders to manage and refine complex datasets (e.g., force structure modeling, readiness, global logistics).
• Minimum of 3 years leading DoD analytic or operations research teams, including responsibility for force structure, capability gap, or force posture assessments.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting data-driven policy decisions, requirements generation, and strategic planning.
• Demonstrated proficiency using SQL to manage, query, and analyze logistics, readiness, and intelligence-related information systems.
Desired Skills
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience briefing senior DoD leadership.
  • Proficiency with analytic modeling tools, data visualization platforms, or military simulation tools.

Required Clearance
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI eligibility required.

The pay range for this position is $90,000/year to $120,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
