Job description

General Summary:

This position will facilitate the maintenance, adjustment, and expansion of the plant PLC based machine control and data collection functions.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordination, design, implementation, and monitoring of all equipment controls improvements and upgrades at all MTI facilities
  • Coordination, design, implementation, and monitoring of all process data collection systems for all facilities.ย  Management and implementations of the AB second level control systems.
  • Participate in capital planning / improvements at all facilities.
  • Assist operations personnel in start-ups and controls / electrical troubleshooting.
  • Project management of capital improvements at all facilities
  • Advisement and participation in robotic and automation installations

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Must have working knowledge of process controls technology (both current and past)
  • Must have working knowledge of a wide variety of controls hardware โ€“ Relay logic, PLCs, ControlLogix, Frequency Drives etc.ย  Allen Bradley is the PLC platform of MTI.
  • Must have experience with controls and user interface software (RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, PanelView, and others.ย  RSView And FactoryTalk View experience a plus.)
  • Must have experience with Ethernet, DH+ and RIO control networks.ย 
  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing power distribution systems.
  • Needs to be able to converse with IS personnel (networks, Ethernet, etc.) on interfacing issues.
  • Knowledge of high voltage systems and distribution a plus.
  • Knowledge of utility systems (water, air, hydraulic, etc.) a plus
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills to interact with a wide variety of individuals within MTI.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks at a time.
  • Understands and can meet deadline-oriented business transactions.
  • Team player.

Working Conditions

  • The Controls Engineer will reside in the office and on the production floor for installations and troubleshooting.ย  Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.ย  The position will be based in Auburn IN.ย  Travel will be required to different MTI facilities.ย  Typical travel is about 1-3 days in duration.ย  Longer periods may be required but are infrequent.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and on their feet 50% on the production floor.
  • Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.
  • This position will operate a computer and other machinery in the plant.
  • Must be able to frequently communicate with employees and other individuals in person and telephone. ย ย 
  • This position may operate a vehicle when traveling to other facilities, customers, suppliers, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of hands-on Industrial PLC experience and responsibility in a manufacturing environment.
