POSITION: Custodian – 8 hours

HOURS & TIME: Mornings

8:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

(Hours may vary occasionally) - 4 hours - Transportation, 4 hours Lincoln

SCHOOL: Lincoln Elementary and Transportation

SALARY: In accordance with current salary schedule for Local #73

SUMMARY

Keeps building or assigned area within building in neat, clean, sanitary and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following plus any other duties that may be required by the employer and as per the Special Bulletin designated for the position:

  • Laundry duties as needed
  • Empties wastebaskets and other refuse containers and disposes of contents in appropriate manner
  • Cleans seating and table surfaces as needed
  • Sweep and mop daily
  • Cleans glass surfaces, drinking fountains, sinks, bowls, etc., as assigned
  • Cleans and sanitizes restroom areas as assigned. (typically every ½ hour)
  • Moves furniture and/or equipment when assigned
  • Moves and relocates supplies within building when assigned
  • Closes and secures all windows and doors in assigned area
  • Keep custodial storage areas clean, neat, and free from clutter and combustible materials
  • Submits requests for supplies to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice
  • Keeps issued equipment and supplies clean, neat and in useable working conditions
  • Reports damaged, defective, or otherwise unusable equipment to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice
  • Uses cleaning materials and equipment in accordance with safety standards
  • Cleans assigned areas in accordance with procedures set forth in cleaning guides
  • Maintains current MSDS knowledge of all cleaning materials in use
  • Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with MSDS standards and school corporation policies and guidelines

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively with building’s custodial staff, all building staff and administrators.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, climb, use hands to finger, feel, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently life and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
