Job description

Job Title: Enterprise Database Administrator (Cloud Data & Data Mesh)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Database Administrator to serve as a core database and platform expert across multiple agile delivery teams. In this role, you will design, install, maintain, and upgrade databases across high-availability production and non-production environments while optimizing modern data mesh infrastructure.
This is a high-impact technical role combining traditional database administration (reliability, performance tuning, security, and disaster recovery) with modern cloud data architecture. You will manage Databricks Unity Catalog configurations, optimize cross-workspace access patterns, implement data federation strategies, and collaborate closely with cross-functional domain teams. If you are a proactive problem-solver with deep expertise in both relational and cloud-native database environments, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Core Database Administration & Reliability
Environment Health: Plan, organize, and execute database reliability initiatives, performance monitoring, tuning, security audits, backups, and disaster recovery execution.
Code & Stored Procedures: Code, edit, test, and install stored procedures and functions designed for secure database access, maintenance, and population.
Performance & Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and database performance issues across SQL Server, Amazon RDS, and distributed data pipelines.
Upgrades & Capacity: Perform database upgrades, add new schemas or structures, and monitor utilization metrics for proactive capacity planning across development, testing, and production environments.
Data Mesh & Cloud Platform Engineering
Platform Optimization: Administer and optimize data mesh infrastructure across multiple domains, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
Unity Catalog Management: Manage Databricks Unity Catalog configurations for multi-workspace data sharing, metastore federation, catalog hierarchies, and role-based access controls.
Data Federation: Implement and maintain data federation strategies connecting cloud-native storage with on-premises data sources using query engines like Starburst/Trino.
Governance & Automation: Collaborate with data governance teams to enforce fine-grained access controls, data lineage tracking, and automated data migration pipelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Experience Baseline: 3+ to 6+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator in complex enterprise environments.
Technical Mastery:
oDeep expertise in Amazon RDS, AWS DMS, and SQL Server.
oHands-on administration experience with Databricks Unity Catalog (metastores, schemas, catalogs, external locations).
oWorking knowledge of Starburst/Trino query federation and hybrid cloud data connectivity.
oFamiliarity with data mesh architectural principles and domain-oriented data ownership models.
oExperience with cloud-native storage patterns (S3, ADLS), Delta Lake lakehouse formats, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
Core Competencies: Superior communication skills, rigorous attention to detail, calm decision-making under pressure during high-stakes deployments, and a strong ownership mentality.
Preferred Attributes
Proven experience managing programmatic database administration via REST APIs and automation scripts.
Strong background in database security, IAM, identity federation, and enterprise metadata management.
Experience supporting agile, multi-team delivery environments using Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies.
