Job description

Job Summary Operate magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross‐sectional diagnostic images of patient bodies. Conduct patient interviews, remove hazardous metal objects, position patients and coils according to radiologist protocols, and communicate via microphones during scans. Schedule Day Shift: Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00AM – 5:30PM. 8 hours/day, 40hrs/week. Hourly rate starting at $52.00, subject to shift differential, experience, education, or other factors. Responsibilities Operate MRI equipment and enter patient data, scan parameters, and image data into the computer system. Interview patients to explain procedures; remove metal objects that could be hazardous. Position patients and place appropriate coils (head, knee, etc.) near the area of interest. Communicate with patients via a microphone during examinations; provide reassurance to reduce anxiety. Monitor patients through the control‐room window for safety and comfort during scans. View images on the monitor, assess image quality, and retake images as needed. Document scan data and, when required, photograph images. Alert staff to metal hazards in the magnet room. Perform quality‐assurance duties and maintain the MRI safety program. Prepare the MRI suite before the first patient and keep the work area clean and organized. Consult with the radiologist to determine if additional imaging is required. Screen patients for medical‐necessity criteria and contact the primary nurse when special conditions exist (e.g., pacemaker). Recognize and report abnormal patient conditions or pain during the exam. Maintain professional conduct with patients, families, and coworkers and remain calm in high‐stress environments. Complete all required paperwork and documentation in compliance with ARRT, ACR, OSHA, and Montefiore Nyack Hospital protocols. Attend departmental in‐services, education days, and monthly meetings; sign off on meeting minutes. Participate in continuous quality improvement and performance‐improvement activities. Be available for holiday rotations per union contract. Handle equipment safely and educate staff about MRI safety. Qualifications At least one year of MRI experience. ARRT‐MR certification required at hire; preferred within one year. BLS certification (American Heart Association) required within 90 days. New York State radiology license required at hire. IV certification training on site, required within 90 days. Strong verbal communication and customer‐service skills. Ability to work under stress and maintain a positive attitude.
