What companies use MQTT?

Many companies across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, automotive, and smart home technology use MQTT for real-time data communication in IoT applications. Organizations like IBM, Cisco, and Siemens implement MQTT protocols to enable efficient device connectivity and data exchange. Job roles involving MQTT often require knowledge of network protocols, security, and IoT platforms.

What is the difference between Mqtt vs Network Engineer?

AspectMqttNetwork Engineer
Required CredentialsKnowledge of IoT protocols, certifications in IoT or networkingNetworking certifications (CCNA, CCNP), degree in computer science or related field
Work EnvironmentIoT systems, embedded devices, cloud platformsCorporate networks, data centers, enterprise infrastructure
Industry UsageIoT, smart devices, real-time data transmissionTelecommunications, IT services, enterprise networking
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While Mqtt focuses on messaging protocols for IoT devices, Network Engineers design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure. Both roles require networking knowledge, but Mqtt specialists are more involved with IoT communication protocols, whereas Network Engineers handle broader network systems.

What is MQTT and what does an MQTT specialist do?

MQTT, which stands for Message Queuing Telemetry Transport, is a lightweight messaging protocol designed for fast, efficient communication between devices, often used in IoT (Internet of Things) environments. An MQTT specialist configures, manages, and optimizes MQTT brokers and clients to ensure reliable data transmission between connected devices. Their responsibilities often include implementing secure connections, troubleshooting communication issues, and supporting scalable deployments for real-time data exchange.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MQTT Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MQTT Developer, you need a solid understanding of messaging protocols, IoT architectures, and programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++. Familiarity with MQTT brokers like Mosquitto, EMQX, and cloud IoT platforms, as well as relevant certifications in IoT or cloud technologies, is typically required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across teams and troubleshooting complex integrations. These skills ensure reliable, scalable, and secure real-time data communication in IoT systems.

What are some common challenges faced by MQTT developers when implementing real-time messaging solutions?

MQTT developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring reliable message delivery in environments with variable network connectivity and optimizing performance for resource-constrained devices. Managing quality of service (QoS) levels, handling large-scale deployments, and securing data transmission are also key concerns. Close collaboration with network engineers and security teams is typical, as developers must balance efficiency, scalability, and security requirements in real-time applications.

Is IoT a good career?

A career related to IoT, including roles like MQTT developer or engineer, is considered promising due to the growing adoption of connected devices and smart systems. It requires skills in networking, programming, and security, with opportunities across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and home automation. The field offers ongoing learning and specialization options, making it a viable choice for technology professionals.

Is MQTT still relevant?

MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) remains a relevant protocol for IoT and real-time data communication, especially in environments requiring lightweight, efficient messaging. Jobs involving MQTT often require knowledge of network security, protocol implementation, and integration with cloud platforms, making it a valuable skill in connected device development and automation.

What does MQTT stand for?

MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) is a lightweight messaging protocol used in IoT and real-time data applications. It enables devices to communicate efficiently over networks with minimal bandwidth and power consumption, making it valuable for roles involving network communication, embedded systems, or IoT device management.

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
Job Description
Anduril is seeking a Controls Automation Systems Engineer to maintain the mission-critical technology stack that powers our connected factories. You will be responsible for the maintenance and sustainment of our system infrastructure-from SCADA servers to virtualized workloads-while using a modern, cloud-managed approach. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the world's best engineers, implementing cutting-edge systems in complex, high-stakes manufacturing environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Operate and Maintain Factory Infrastructure: Take ownership of the on-premise infrastructure and control systems supporting factory operations
  • OT Server Infrastructure: Operate and maintain OT server infrastructure including Ignition gateways, historians, MQTT brokers, with disciplined backup and change-control practices
  • OT Network Infrastructure: Operate and maintain OT networking stack for production (MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP) and diagnose protocol, timing, and VLAN segmentation issues using packet-level analysis
  • SCADA: Develop Ignition Perspective SCADA applications - views, tag architecture, alarm pipelines, historian configuration, and gateway topology
  • Ensure Performance and Reliability: Maintain, troubleshoot, and debug PLC code on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms, producing structured, documented code suitable for high-volume manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve: Act as the escalation point for resolving complex infrastructure-related issues and outages promptly to maintain factory uptime
  • Collaborate and Document: Work closely with development, security, and operations teams to support application deployment and maintain clear documentation of all infrastructure designs and procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4+ years of experience in controls, automations, and IT/OT infrastructure engineering with a strong, demonstrable focus for on-premise systems (servers, storage, virtualization, networking)
  • Ability to work second shift - 3:30 PM - 12 AM
  • Proficient in Ignition SCADA development including gateway modules (Tag Historian, Alarm Notification, SQL Bridge, OPC UA, MQTT Engine/Distributor/Transmission)
  • Proficient across the OT network stack - MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP, industrial Ethernet, VLANs, switching/routing - with fluency in packet-level analysis
  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity - air-gapped networks, network segmentation, server hardening, secure remote access
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as - ISA/IEC 62443, Purdue Enterprise Reference Model (PERA), NIST 800-82, NIST 800-53
  • Experience with automation and scripting using languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in regulated or defense manufacturing environments (ITAR/EAR-controlled, CMMC, or FDA/aerospace quality systems), NIST 800-171
  • Experience deploying Ignition in redundant/high-availability gateway topologies
  • Experience integrating controls systems with MES and QMS platforms
  • Experience with Windows/Linux configuration and administration.
