Job description

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM - HOMEBOUND DRIVER
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Picks up the meals for delivery from the preparation site; delivers the home-delivered meals to the elderly on the prepared list; returns the meal carriers to the assigned location; reports the status of the elderly on the assigned route; and reports the number of meals needed for the next delivery.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Services Director or other designated staff.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK
1. Arrives at the designated time to start the preparation for meal delivery:
  • Review the delivery list and check the number of meals needed.
  • Check carries for the appropriate number of meals.
  • Load the appropriate number of cold packs.
  • Start the delivery of home-delivered meals to the elderly on the routes listed in the route notebook.
2. Delivery of the meals on the assigned route:
  • Delivery of the proper dietary meals to the assigned homebound elderly.
  • Meals cannot be left if the person is not at home:
  • Return carriers to the designed location

  1. Report to the central office staff:
    • Any difficulties (person not at home, person wants to stop the delivery of meals, etc);
    • Also report on the number of meals needed for the next delivery.

4. Other tasks assigned by the Senior Services Director or other designated staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ability to follow instructions, organize time, and perform a variety of tasks.
2. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, preparation staff, and the elderly.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
4. Good physical health and personal grooming standards.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experienced drivers with a good driving record are required. Some record-keeping/documentation experience is preferred.
