The EMT is responsible for providing basic to advanced levels of life support and medical emergency treatments to patients at accident or illness scenes. Roles & Responsibilities:
The EMT is responsible for providing basic to advanced levels of life support and medical emergency treatments to patients at accident or illness scenes. Work includes the delivery of high-quality emergency patient care, utilizing proper equipment and adequate treatment methods while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality patient care and emergency medical treatment to individuals of all ages in the pre-hospital setting, as per scope of practice by State law and by Medical Director approved protocols
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured persons
  • Determine the nature of the illness or injury and administer treatment decisions based on appropriate protocols, techniques, resources, and equipment available to treat the illness or injury
  • Maintain accurate documentation for patient care and condition, for all emergency medical treatments provided
  • Ensure EMS call and treatment documentation is sent to the appropriate receiving hospital/medical facility
  • Assist with the transport of patients to external medical treatment facilities
  • Communicate with other healthcare hosts to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services
  • Assist with routine maintenance, inventory, cleanliness, and readiness of First Aid Office inspects other equipment for functionality and keeps the office organized. Reports any damage, problems, or malfunctions on the proper forms daily and ensures the supervisor is notified of any issues
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well stocked environment for patients
  • Understand and comply with safety and infection control procedures
  • Maintain composure in high pressure and emergency situations
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patient rights
  • All other duties assigned by leadership

Education & Experience:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent Equivalent work experience will also be considered
  • 1+ years of previous work experience in an emergency care setting highly desired.
  • Current EMT Certification/License in the state of Connecticut
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Languages: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Connecticut Child Labor Laws
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of current EMT standards of care, equipment use, and function.
  • Practical knowledge of rescue and emergency medical principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Practical knowledge of handling bloodborne and/or airborne pathogens.
  • Ability to operate emergency vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain composure in a high-stress work environment or emergency.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine safe and proper courses of action ability to problem-solve and take initiative.
  • Ability to perform invasive advanced medical procedures, per level of certification, during emergencies.
  • Ability to file reports using a computer and EMS software.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a sensitive manner.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat or reach above shoulders
  • Ability to remain on feet for majority of the workday
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more
  • Ability to lift patients of varying weights and sizes

Working Conditions:
  • Subject to a variety of stressful emergency situations involving people or property
  • Frequent exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, vibrations, and heavily populated environments
