What is a motorcycle sales job?

A Motorcycle Sales job involves assisting customers in purchasing new or used motorcycles by providing product knowledge, financing options, and test rides. Sales representatives help customers find the right bike based on their needs, preferences, and budget. They also handle paperwork, negotiate prices, and may offer accessories or service plans. Strong communication, customer service, and product expertise are essential for success in this role.

What are some of the typical challenges faced in motorcycle sales, and how can they be overcome?

In Motorcycle Sales, common challenges include meeting monthly sales targets during slow seasons, staying up to date with the latest model releases and industry trends, and addressing a wide range of customer questions or concerns. Successful sales associates overcome these hurdles by maintaining strong product knowledge, leveraging technology to track leads and follow-up, and focusing on building trustworthy relationships with customers. Staying proactive about learning and consistently providing exceptional service can set you apart in a competitive dealership environment. Collaboration with the service, finance, and parts departments is also crucial for ensuring a seamless purchasing experience and boosting overall sales performance.

Why are motorcycle sales declining?

Motorcycle sales are declining due to factors such as increased fuel efficiency of other vehicles, rising insurance costs, and changing consumer preferences toward alternative transportation options. Additionally, economic downturns and safety concerns can reduce demand, impacting sales jobs in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in motorcycle sales?

To thrive in Motorcycle Sales, you need in-depth knowledge of motorcycle models, features, and accessories, along with proven sales experience or relevant certifications. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), financing tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) software is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, active listening, and persuasive communication are essential soft skills for success in this environment. These abilities help build rapport with customers, match them with the right products, and close deals in a competitive sales setting.

How much do motorcycle salespeople make?

Motorcycle salespeople typically earn a base salary plus commissions, with average total earnings ranging from $30,000 to $60,000 annually. Top performers or those working in high-volume dealerships can earn more, especially with strong sales skills and product knowledge.

How to get into motorcycle sales?

To get into motorcycle sales, candidates typically need sales experience, good communication skills, and knowledge of motorcycles. Many employers prefer applicants with a valid driver's license and a basic understanding of motorcycle mechanics or features. Starting in retail or customer service can also help build relevant skills for a motorcycle sales position.

Job Description

What to expect when you work here

As a Sales Associate, you would be responsible for providing every customer with a great experience. You will be expected to maintain a strong sense of product knowledge, and to provide customers with in-depth information on product features and benefits.

You can expect our 5 Core Values to drive everything we do.

Aim For The Podium:

  • We provide an outstanding shopping experience and deliver exceptional customer service. Sales Associates are responsible for hitting their daily/weekly/monthly sales goals

  • Maintain store aesthetics by cleaning, stocking, organizing and following merchandising plans

  • Stay up-to-date with our brand and product knowledge, company information, sales and company-wide events, truly becoming a resource to our customer base

Take Risks; Wear a Helmet:

  • It never hurts to try something new. We are always looking to grow and progress and want to hear all your new ideas

  • Don't be afraid to fail; no one is right all the time, but you can always be well-prepared

Share The Road:

  • We take the health, safety, and wellness of our employees seriously. Our Wellness program and safety committee offers workshops, classes, resources, etc. to all of our team members

  • Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion council and employee resource groups promote open and honest communication, remove barriers, and champion policies to build a more equitable environment

  • Do the right thing, always. A friendly and upbeat personality is a must

Keep It Real:

  • This is a part-time position. You'll earn an hourly base rate, plus you'll have a chance to earn commission on a tiered system, based on meeting your sales goal

  • Additional incentives available, such as SPIFFS, plus we offer generous employee discounts on all products

  • Because a whole lot of life happens between paychecks, Comoto also offers a voluntary benefit to all team members called DailyPay which allows for secure, instant transfers of earned pay before payday. This benefit is available to all team members immediately upon hire

  • We strongly value training and development - with that, your first 5 shifts will be base pay only, so your only focus is learning

Fuel Your Passion:

  • Work in an industry that you are passionate about!

  • We are a growing company, and we promote from within - career opportunities!

  • Exciting opportunities to represent Cycle Gear at special events -- International Motorcycle Show, motocross races, etc.

  • We have the best customers! Riders are passionate, friendly, charitable, community-minded people, and we get to interact with them every day!

Qualifications

Our next Sales Associate has:

  • 1 year + of sales or customer service experience

  • A self-starter mentality that consistently delivers an outstanding, personalized retail experience

  • An open mind, and is eager to learn and be a part of the riding community

  • Experience with computers and POS systems (particularly RetailPro)

  • Motorcycle riding, knowledge, or interest (desired, but not required)
