Job Purpose

Training is increasingly a key differentiator in the mining technology industry and is an essential component of customer retention, customer acquisition, and overall customer success. The Digital Learning Developer creates engaging, interactive, and visually compelling learning experiences that enhance the effectiveness of Komatsu's training programs.
This role is ideal for a creative problem solver with a passion for technology, digital learning, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate enjoys learning new tools, experimenting with emerging technologies, and creating engaging learning experiences through a combination of instructional design, multimedia production, web technologies, and AI-assisted development. Success in this role depends as much on curiosity, adaptability, and technical aptitude as it does on existing technical knowledge.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain engaging digital learning experiences for web-based, instructor-led, and blended learning environments, including interactive activities, simulations, mini-games, multimedia content, and custom learning applications that support defined learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts, software engineers, and product teams to translate technical concepts into engaging, learner-centered experiences while ensuring instructional effectiveness and technical accuracy.
  • Produce high-quality digital media assets including videos, animations, motion graphics, interactive graphics, user interface elements, and supporting visual resources that enhance learner engagement and knowledge retention.
  • Research, prototype, and evaluate emerging learning technologies, development frameworks, and interactive design approaches. Recommend innovative solutions that improve the effectiveness, scalability, and maintainability of digital learning products.
  • Apply sound software development, project management, and quality assurance practices by maintaining reusable code and media assets, documenting solutions, testing deliverables, managing version control, and delivering projects on schedule while collaborating effectively across global teams.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Multimedia Development, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and demonstrated portfolio.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and ability to independently learn unfamiliar technologies and apply them effectively to solve business and learning challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate content creation, software development, media production, research, and other creative workflows while maintaining quality, accuracy, and appropriate human oversight.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies, software, and development tools independently, with a demonstrated ability to apply them to solve business and learning challenges.
  • Experience creating high-quality digital media using professional creative tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent software.
  • Strong visual design skills with an understanding of user experience (UX), usability, accessibility, and learner engagement principles.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into engaging, learner-centered experiences.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including instructional designers, engineers, software developers, product managers, subject matter experts, and global stakeholders.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to accelerate content creation, software development, media production, research, or other creative workflows while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Portfolio Required: Applicants must submit examples of interactive learning experiences, web applications, multimedia projects, or other work demonstrating both technical capability and creative problem solving.
Desired Skills
  • Experience extending commercial authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate, or similar platforms through scripting or custom development.
  • Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, or integrating third-party applications.
