About the Role

WQED Multimedia seeks a Motion Graphic Designer to turn established visual identities into polished graphics and animation for editorial content and promotion across television, streaming, web, social media, podcasts, and other digital platforms.

Reporting to the Broadcast Promotion Manager, this hands-on role works downstream from brand development. A Brand Designer in Marketing will create logos, sub-brands, and campaign identities; the Motion Graphic Designer will apply and extend those systems in motion, on screen, and within production workflows. The role also creates original graphics when a project does not require a new visual identity.

Applicants must include a link to an online portfolio demonstrating motion design, broadcast graphics, animation, and related work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply established WQED brands, series identities, logos, and campaign systems to broadcast, streaming, editorial, promotional, and social content.
  • Create motion graphics, show opens, title sequences, lower thirds, transitions, end pages, tune-in graphics, explainer elements, and other on-screen packages.
  • Build adaptable templates and toolkits that producers and editors can consistently use across recurring content.
  • Animate and resize approved creative for television, WQED+, YouTube, websites, mobile platforms, podcasts, email, and social media.
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, the Brand Designer, and other colleagues to translate creative direction into clear, effective screen design.
  • Create original static and motion graphics for projects that do not require a new brand or campaign identity.
  • Prepare and deliver files that meet technical specifications, accessibility requirements, brand standards, and production deadlines.
  • Maintain organized project files, templates, graphics libraries, and reusable assets.
  • Contribute ideas during concept development and creative reviews, with particular attention to how designs function in motion and across screen formats.
Qualifications
  • Three or more years of professional experience in motion design, broadcast design, graphic design, post-production, or a related field.
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong motion graphics, animation, typography, composition, and screen-based design.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator; proficiency in Premiere Pro or comparable editing software.
  • Experience preparing graphics for television, video, streaming, or digital production workflows.
  • Strong understanding of frame rates, aspect ratios, codecs, alpha channels, safe areas, and other common delivery requirements.
  • Ability to work within established visual systems while making sound creative decisions about movement, pacing, hierarchy, and legibility.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with producers, editors, designers, and other content teams.
Preferred
  • Experience with Cinema 4D, Blender, or other 3D or visual-effects tools.
  • Experience in television, broadcast promotion, or a high-volume media production environment.
Compensation & Benefits

The compensation band for this full-time position is $29.00-$36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include a PPO health insurance plan; employer-paid dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; and-after 12 months-a 5% employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan.
