A Video Editor primarily focuses on assembling and editing raw footage into a cohesive video. Understanding these differences helps employers and professionals choose the right skill set for their projects.

How does a motion editor typically collaborate with animators and other creative team members during a project?

Motion Editors work closely with animators, directors, and visual effects artists to refine and enhance character movement and performance. They often receive raw animation or motion capture data, which they clean up, edit, and blend to achieve realistic, expressive results that align with the project's vision. Regular communication and feedback sessions are common, ensuring the final motion seamlessly integrates with the creative direction and technical requirements. Collaboration is key, as Motion Editors may need to quickly iterate on feedback or adapt to changes in the animation pipeline.

What is a motion editor?

A Motion Editor is a professional who specializes in editing and refining motion in digital media, such as animation, video games, or film. They work with motion capture data, keyframe animation, and other movement sequences to ensure smooth, realistic, or stylized motion as required by the project. Motion Editors collaborate closely with animators, directors, and other team members to achieve the desired visual results. Their expertise lies in adjusting timing, spacing, and transitions to enhance the overall quality and believability of the animated scenes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a motion editor?

To thrive as a Motion Editor, you need a solid understanding of animation principles, motion capture data editing, and video production, typically supported by a degree in animation, film, or a related field. Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Autodesk MotionBuilder, Adobe After Effects, and Maya, as well as familiarity with motion capture systems, is essential. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help motion editors collaborate effectively and bring dynamic visual content to life. Mastering these skills ensures high-quality, seamless animation and efficient workflow in fast-paced production environments.

At Bose Corporation, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth - and for over 60 years, we have been a company built on innovation, excellence, and independence. Privately owned, fiercely customer-focused, and driven by our values, we continue to lead industries and transform lives through sound.

Today, Bose Corporation is entering an exciting new era. Across multiple global Business Units and Global Functions, we are shaping the future of audio technology, automotive, luxury, and premium experiences. We invite you to join us in this transformation.

Job Description

This Motion Designer sits at the center of a highly collaborative, social-first creative team, acting as the bridge between visual design and video editing. You will translate visual designers' storyboards into dynamic motion and video content, bringing ideas to life with precision, craft, and strong platform-native understanding.

The work spans fast-turn (often within 1-2 working days), reactive social content through to long-form YouTube concert series, all rooted in Bose's presence and impact within music culture. You'll be shaping how Bose shows up in the music conversation, creating content that responds to, reflects, and amplifies the brand's relationship with artists, sound, and culture.

This is a tight-knit, highly collaborative environment where motion, design, and edit are deeply interconnected. You'll work closely with designers, editors, producers, and creative leads to ensure seamless execution from concept through final delivery. The ideal candidate is excited by music, energized by experimentation, and confident working across both speed-driven social content and more crafted long-form storytelling.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Translate visual design storyboards into polished motion graphics and social-first video content

  • Bring static design concepts to life with thoughtful motion, timing, and storytelling for social platforms

  • Collaborate closely with visual designers and video editors to ensure cohesive creative execution across all stages of production

  • Create motion systems that flex across short-form reactive content and long-form YouTube programming

  • Ensure content is optimized for platform-native best practices across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging formats
Prepare and manage working files across Figma, Illustrator, and Photoshop for motion execution

  • Build and maintain organized, scalable After Effects projects with strong production structure

  • Collaborate on GFX and design updates where motion input is required

  • Contribute ideas in creative sessions and help push concepts further through motion thinking

  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly iterative production environment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR (THE MANDATORIES)

  • ~5 years of experience in motion design, animation, or related creative production roles

  • Mastery of Adobe After Effects

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma for motion prep and asset workflows

  • Experience using Adobe Premiere Pro and collaborating closely with video editors

  • Proven experience creating both short-form and long-form social content

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

  • Comfort in fast-paced, iterative environments with shifting priorities

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to experiment and refine

  • Deep familiarity with social media content formats and platform behavior

NICE TO HAVES

  • 3D motion and rendering experience (Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar tools)

  • Experience adapting or updating design systems for motion and GFX

  • Background working with music, artists, or music-focused brands

  • Experience presenting your own work to creative teams or stakeholders

  • Passion for music culture and how it intersects with visual storytelling
