Motion Designer Editor information

What is a motion designer editor?

Motion Designer Editors are creative professionals who combine animation, graphic design, and video editing to produce engaging visual content. They use software like After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Cinema 4D to create motion graphics for advertisements, films, social media, and other digital platforms. Their work often includes designing animated titles, visual effects, and integrating graphics with live-action footage. They collaborate closely with creative teams to bring visual concepts to life and ensure the final product meets the project's objectives.

How does a motion designer editor typically collaborate with other creative team members during a project?

Motion Designer Editors frequently work closely with art directors, video editors, animators, and producers to bring visual concepts to life. They participate in brainstorming sessions, review feedback, and align their animations and edits with the overall project vision. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role often involves integrating motion graphics into larger video pieces and ensuring consistent branding across deliverables. Collaboration tools and regular meetings help streamline feedback loops and creative alignment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a motion designer editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Motion Designer Editor, you need a strong background in graphic design, animation principles, and video editing, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Mastery of software such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Cinema 4D, and relevant plugins is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective collaboration skills help you create compelling visuals that align with project goals. These skills ensure the delivery of visually engaging content that meets client expectations and enhances brand communication.

About the Role
We're looking for a talented Motion Designer to create engaging digital content, campaigns, and assets for a variety of brands. This role leans more animator than designer: we want someone who can bring work to life with movement, rhythm, and timing. You'll work closely with Art Directors and Creative Directors to concept, design, and animate across a range of projects, from social-first campaigns to larger integrated work.
Responsibilities:
  • Animate digital marketing assets predominantly for social media channels.
  • Concept, design, and animate work, solo or as part of larger global teams.
  • Create styleframes, style proposals, sketches, and mockups to initiate new projects and pitch animation concepts.
  • Design and build presentation decks that bring pitches and concepts to life.
  • Translate creative briefs into comprehensive design briefs.
  • Push creative boundaries to develop innovative digital designs and aesthetics.
  • Set and maintain design styles, ensuring consistency across formats.
  • Collaborate with designers, copywriters, and creative leads to produce high-quality integrated visual designs.
  • Manage the design process, providing fresh perspectives and solutions to enhance work quality.
About You
The essentials:
  • 3+ years of experience, focusing on motion design for digital and advertising.
  • Exceptional portfolio presented in both motion and static examples.
  • Strong animation skills with a good sense of rhythm and timing.
  • Proficient in the Adobe suite, with strong file and folder organization.
  • Experience across all stages of the process, from concept to final execution.
  • Solid understanding of design fundamentals such as typography, flow, and storytelling.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills for collaborating with teams.
Not a must, but a plus:
  • Light video editing experience.
  • Working with audio (a huge plus).
  • Traditional art and illustration skills.
  • Deck and presentation design.
  • 3D design and animation.
