Job description

The Role

We are looking for a Software Product Manager to build and improve the internal software used daily by teams that design, deploy, and manage microgrids and data center energy solutions. In addition to product development, this person will drive Scale's internal AI adoption efforts and steer key cybersecurity initiatives.

This is a broad role in a lean team, well-suited for someone with strong PM craft, AI fluency, and the versatility to operate across multiple workstreams. You'll be close to the product work - from understanding user needs to shipping improvements that matter.

You'll report to our Staff Product Manager and work a hybrid schedule from our New York City office near Union Square.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead products from discovery through launch: clarify problems to solve, define and scope features, drive prioritization, and partner with engineering and design to ship
  • Develop a deep understanding of internal customers and users; continuously refine through direct engagement and research
  • Maintain a clear, prioritized roadmap and stay proactively ahead across concurrent workstreams, ensuring the team is always focused on the highest-value problems
  • Make day-to-day product decisions grounded in user research, business context, technical feasibility, and ROI; define and track outcomes, not just outputs
  • Partner on software strategy; bring forward insights from discovery to inform direction
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across product areas and functions - including project analysis, business development, asset management, and engineering - running regular touchpoints, setting expectations, and communicating progress and tradeoffs clearly
  • Leverage AI to increase your own productivity; help drive the incorporation of AI capabilities into our products
  • Drive Scale's internal AI adoption - assess how teams across the organization are using or could benefit from AI, prioritize where to provide support, and serve as an internal resource for teams navigating AI tools and workflows
  • Steer Scale's ISO certification program alongside external consultants, coordinating across stakeholders and collaborating with IT & Engineering on cybersecurity priorities
  • Coordinate with other functions for product releases; provide demos and training to users
  • Contribute to team standards and continuously improve how the PM function operates
The Ideal Candidate
  • 3+ years of product management experience in an early or growth-stage B2B environment, with demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a product
  • Energized by taking products and making them work better - finding the problems that matter, shipping improvements, and seeing the impact in how users work
  • Efficient in discovery: able to run lean, effective research in parallel across multiple products; knows when there is enough signal to move forward
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and creative problem-solving skills; comfortable making calls with limited data
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to manage a range of internal stakeholders and translate between technical and business contexts
  • Comfortable managing multiple product areas simultaneously, with the ability to context-switch and allocate attention based on where it's most needed
  • Comfortable operating in a lean team; self-directed and able to manage competing priorities without heavy scaffolding
  • Motivated by going deep on a product domain and growing as a practitioner
  • AI fluency - uses AI tools as a natural part of the work, and excited by the prospect of helping an organization develop its AI capabilities and navigate how to use them effectively
  • Ability to take on program management or cross-functional coordination responsibilities alongside product responsibilities
  • Good understanding of software technologies, cybersecurity and development
  • Enthusiasm for the company’s mission and vision for a distributed energy future
  • Industry experience in energy, utilities, or closely related infrastructure sectors
  • Nice to Have: experience with distributed energy resources (e.g., energy storage, PV, microgrids), utility tariffs and rate structures, grid services
  • Nice to Have: experience with security compliance or certifications (e.g., ISO, SOC 2)
  • Nice to Have: experience with data center operations or infrastructure

This is a great opportunity to have a long-term impact on a fast-paced, private equity-backed growth business. Some of the core virtues embraced by Scales' employees include:

  • Do the Right Thing
  • Act Like an Owner
  • Hustle
  • Demand Results
  • Go Together
  • Evolve or Disappear

We offer a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive benefits program including medical benefits, paid vacation and holidays, and 401K matching.
