Job description

Why This Role Exists
A successful mortgage closing starts well before the closing documents are prepared. The Mortgage Pre-Closer helps ensure mortgage and home equity transactions reach the closing stage with accurate, complete, and timely information.
In this role, you will help identify and resolve missing pre-closing requirements, coordinate with borrowers and business partners, and keep transactions moving toward closing. Your attention to detail and sense of urgency will support an efficient closing experience for our members while helping Metro manage operational and documentation risk.
What You'll Own
  • The completeness and accuracy of assigned mortgage and home equity files before closing-document preparation
  • Timely collection and validation of insurance, employment, credit, payoff, and scheduling information
  • Coordination of home equity closings with borrowers and branch partners
  • Clear communication and follow-up with closing attorneys
  • Monitoring of the mortgage closing inbox for new scheduling activity
  • Accurate system updates that provide the Mortgage Closing Manager with visibility into upcoming closings

What You'll Do
  • Obtain current insurance binders and confirm that required hazard insurance coverage is in place.
  • Complete verbal verifications of employment for borrowers within required timeframes.
  • Pull final credit report inquiries at least seven days before closing and ensure the final invoice is included in the file.
  • Coordinate home equity closing dates with borrowers and branches and record the closing date in the system.
  • Obtain payoff information for home equity transactions.
  • Send scheduling sheets to closing attorneys once required documentation has been received.
  • Follow up with closing attorneys to support timely delivery and prevent avoidable closing delays.
  • Monitor the mortgage closing inbox for newly received scheduling sheets.
  • Assist with additional Mortgage Operations responsibilities as assigned by management.

Success Looks Like in 12 to 18 Months
  • Assigned files consistently reach the closing-document stage with required pre-closing information complete and accurate.
  • Insurance coverage, employment verifications, credit inquiries, invoices, and payoff information are obtained within applicable timeframes.
  • Home equity closings are coordinated clearly with borrowers and branches.
  • Closing attorneys receive complete scheduling information with timely follow-up.
  • Closing dates and file activity are accurately recorded, giving management reliable pipeline visibility.
  • Potential documentation issues are identified early and escalated appropriately.
  • Members and internal partners receive responsive, professional service throughout the pre-closing process.

You'll Love This Role If...
  • You enjoy organizing detailed information and making sure nothing important is missed.
  • You take pride in accurate work and understand how small details can affect a closing.
  • You work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • You are comfortable following up with borrowers, branches, insurance agents, and closing attorneys.
  • You can work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • You remain focused, dependable, and professional when priorities change.

AI Expectations
You will be encouraged to use Metro-approved AI tools responsibly to improve efficiency and consistency in appropriate administrative work, such as organizing information, refining routine communications, and identifying items that require follow-up. AI should support the work, while employee review, sound judgment, privacy requirements, and established mortgage procedures remain central.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaborate with a team when needed
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Preferred Qualifications
  • Up to one year of related mortgage, banking, lending, administrative, or operational experience
  • Experience reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Experience coordinating time-sensitive work with customers and internal or external business partners
