TITLE: Driver


DEPARTMENT: Transportation


REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor


PAY RATE: $18 - $21 p/h


SHIFT: Monday through Friday 5AM


POSITION SUMMARY


This position is responsible for delivering product to customers on assigned route.


REGULAR ASSIGNED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the vehicle in a safe and defensive manner.
  • Order your route based on the manifest you receive.
  • Perform pre-trip inspection on assigned truck to ensure safe driving conditions and properly working refrigeration.
  • Complete refrigeration logs as required.
  • Notify supervisor is any aspect of your vehicle is not operating correctly.
  • Ensure that the product loaded on your truck is:
  • The correct product as listed on the load sheet or invoice.
  • Make sure the containers that hold the product are in good shape. Do not mishandle, drop, or step on any containers.
  • Ensure the cargo is loaded in a way to make sure it will not be damaged prior to delivery.
  • Prior to leaving the dock and anytime you are away from your vehicle make sure your cargo door is closed and locked.
  • Check the delivery times on your paperwork to ensure you will be able to deliver to your customers on time. If you will not be on time you must communicate the delay to your Route Supervisor or MOD.
  • Only stop at routed delivery destinations. No personal business is to be conducted during work hours. Only stops for lunch are permitted.
  • Inform the office of returns, weight differences or price discrepancies by phone call. Identify those issues on your paperwork. Write the name of the person you spoke with on your paperwork prior to departing the customer’s location.
  • Constantly looking for opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and resolve problems according to company procedures.
  • Demonstrate a serious interest in the customer’s business and create good relationships.
  • Fuel truck prior to returning to the plant.
  • Driver Check In must check all returns. Once checked place all returns neatly in the designated area and ensure they have adequate ice or placed in freezer if frozen product.
  • Perform a post-trip inspection required by the DOT. This inspection is to be handed in with the rest of your paperwork.
  • Ensure that your truck is left neat and clean.
  • Turn in all paperwork, checks, and cash to Driver Check In.
  • Park your truck where designated by Driver Check In.

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Delivering late deliveries to customers, as necessary.
  • Take other driver’s routes to cover call offs or vacation.
  • Fill in various warehouse positions when staffing is short.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Maryland Drivers’ License with less than 3 points.
  • Three to five years of delivery driver experience.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Able to transfer attention from one task to another frequently without affecting performance.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of seafood and proper temperature storage and handling regulations.
  • Able to use navigation tools to find customer locations or to reroute for construction and traffic issues.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DOT card.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
