Job description

Custodial Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a Custodian. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM (one hour lunch), but shift subject to change (40 hours per week). This is a full-time position with benefits. This position helps clean/disinfect the Clement building from 5:00AM - 6:30AM and then reports to the Smith Latimer building which is the primary building for this position. Custodians can be moved to another building at any time

Minimum Qualifications:
*    Typically requires high school diploma or the equivalent three years of leadership experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience.
*    Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
*    Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively; able to interact positively with co-workers.
*    Physical condition conducive to performance of labor tasks (this includes bending, reaching overhead, lifting as much as 50 pounds, stooping, climbing ladders to height of twenty feet, operating power washer, buffers, vacuums, shampoo machines and scrubbers). * Must have good work and attendance record.
*    The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM, but shift subject to change (40 hours per week).

Preferred Qualifications:
*    Experience and knowledge of custodial equipment, to include operation and safety.  Experience and knowledge in the use and safety of cleaning chemicals. Supervisory / leadership experience for five or more years.

Minimum hiring rate $14.25 per hour (Market Range 02)-Salary commensurate with education and experience
 

*    Performing a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations to create a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors in the building.
*    Pulling trash and recycle
*    Cleaning and restocking restrooms and general cleaning of buildings * Changing light bulbs
*    Floor maintenance including stripping and waxing floors; dust mopping and wet mopping; scrubbing and buffing; vacuuming; extracting carpets
*    Maintain sufficient custodial supplies for the assigned areas(s).
*    Reporting any safety concerns and/or maintenance issues to his/her immediate supervisor.
*    Tearing down tables, chairs after special events; sweeping and cleaning bleachers after ball games * May be required to assist in mowing duties.
