THE POSITION
Do you have the analytical experience and industry knowledge needed to ensure that insurance companies meet licensing requirements designed? Apply to be an Insurance Company Licensing Specialist with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID), Bureau of Company Licensing and Financial Analysis. This role reviews complex applications and works closely with insurers, regulators, and professionals across the industry. Your efforts will support fairness, transparency, and responsible business practices to protect consumers and maintain public trust.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position reviews applications from insurance companies and related entities that conduct business in Pennsylvania. Your work analyzing these filings will ensure proper licensing procedures are followed to protect our state's insurance consumers. As an Insurance Company Licensing Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
  • Review Applications: Read and approve or disapprove applications from new, domestic, and international insurance companies and related entities seeking initial licensure, renewal, or approvals for a variety of insurance related matters regulated by PID
  • Analyze Documentation: Evaluate changes to articles of incorporation, bylaws, and corporate names as well as other filings and compliance materials submitted by insurers in relation to relevant rules, regulations, and contracts
  • Support Collaboration: Communicate with internal PID and Commonwealth personnel, other state's regulators, and the general public on licensing and insurance holding company matters
  • Coordinate Solutions: Work with company representatives to help them complete licensing and corporate transaction matters

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of professional regulatory experience in the review and analysis of insurance corporation proposals, filings, operations, financial conditions or licensure requests and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance or a closely related field; or
  • One year of professional experience in analyzing financial statements of insurance companies, or examining the financial conditions of insurance companies or operations of insurance companies, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of professional experience in analyzing financial statements of insurance companies, or examining the financial conditions of insurance companies or operations of insurance companies.
