Job description

Yard Driver 1st Shift

If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have high attention to detail, and have previous yard driver experience, our Yard Driver position in Chino, CA is the perfect role for you! Joining our DC means you're joining a team who's invested in you. With an emphasis on safety and work/life balance, our teams go above and beyond to invest in our Associates. As you meet production and safety goals, you can bet we'll be celebrating your achievements!

Schedule: Monday - Friday 6AM-2:30PM

Accountabilities

  • Assures that trailers are positioned correctly at designated doors or locations in a timely manner without damage to trailer or company property.
  • Assures that applicable standards are maintained in cross operational duties as assigned.
  • Assures that all company policies (safety, attendance, etc.) are adhered to.

Essential Functions

  • Safely operate a yard tractor/hostler to move, spot, stage, couple, and uncouple trailers within the distribution center yard.
  • Operate the yard tractor and trailer combination on public roadways when shuttling trailers between company facilities or other approved off-site locations.
  • Position trailers accurately and safely at dock doors, staging areas, and designated locations in a timely manner.
  • Safely connect and disconnect trailers, including fifth-wheel coupling, air and electrical connections, landing gear, and other required securement devices.
  • Complete required pre-use/pre-trip inspections of yard tractors and trailers and promptly report equipment defects, damage, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, material-handling equipment, other vehicles, dock activity, and changing yard conditions.
  • Maintain the trailer yard in a clean and orderly condition, including removing debris and trash.
  • Properly process and dispose of trailer seals in accordance with company procedures.
  • Promptly report accidents, incidents, property damage, security concerns, and other unusual activity occurring on company property.
  • Communicate equipment maintenance needs and trailer condition to the appropriate personnel.
  • Remain alert to potential security issues while performing normal job duties.
  • Safely operate assigned powered industrial equipment, including reach and clamp equipment, as authorized and trained.
  • Comply with all company safety, attendance, security, and operational policies.
  • Comply with applicable California and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) and commercial motor vehicle regulations.
  • Demonstrate accountability, reliability, professionalism, and respect while modeling company values and expected behaviors.
  • Perform other duties and cross-functional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid California Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) appropriate for the vehicles operated.
  • Ability to maintain all required DOT medical qualifications and certifications.
  • Successful completion of required DOT physical examinations and drug/alcohol testing in accordance with applicable regulations and company policy.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet all applicable company and regulatory driver qualification requirements.
  • Successful completion of required training and authorization for powered industrial equipment operation.
  • Minimum one year of operational experience in a distribution center or similar environment preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate reach and clamp PIT.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, Excel, and other applicable business systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact respectfully with coworkers, drivers, vendors, and other personnel.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a distribution center and yard environment.
  • Position requires regular indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, climbing, and entering/exiting vehicles may be required.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to safely perform the physical requirements associated with operating a yard tractor, coupling/uncoupling trailers, and completing required inspections.
  • Safety shoes and required work uniform must be worn while on duty; company-provided safety shoes and uniform are available.
  • Work may involve exposure to moving vehicles, powered industrial equipment, loading docks, noise, dust, and varying outdoor temperatures.
