Job description

Job Summary

The Machinist analyzes specifications to operate all mold shop machinery to fabricate thermoform molds, tooling components, and closure and label machinery parts; repairs existing molds and hi-die cutting knives.

Essential Job Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions/duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties/functions may be added or assigned.

Operations

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operation for fabrication, and setup requirements of work pieces and machine tools.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders to fabricate parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining parameters such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, and/or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control data.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies and documents critical dimensions and alignment of thermoform tool and components assemblies per inspection procedures using calipers, micrometers, height gauges and other measuring instruments.
  • Must maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Comply with the EHS Policy and applicable regulatory and company EHS rules and requirements.
  • Prompt reporting of any unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns to supervision. Resolving potential hazards swiftly, thereby ensuring a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Attend scheduled EHS trainings.
  • Actively assist the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals. Identify areas for improvement in EHS practices and recommend enhancements to contribute to our commitment to a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.

Product Safety and Quality

  • Follows FDA GMP's regarding food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
  • Practices good housekeeping including clutter-free work area and general cleaning.
  • Follows product safety standards, follows IPC product defense standards, and complies with all SQF requirements.

Minimum Requirements (include education, experience, special skills, licenses and/or certifications required.)

  • Technical: Understanding of how thermoformed (sheet) plastic is formed.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED). Machinist with a minimum of five years of experience in machine shop with the ability to demonstrate proficiency in the setup and operation of all shop machine tools, inspection equipment and methods, and tool repair procedures.
