Job description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain dimensional inspection programs for purchased aerospace parts using CMMs and other metrology tools.
- Program and operate CMMs (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, or equivalent) and other digital measurement systems (laser trackers, optical scanners, comparators, etc.).
- Interpret and apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to inspection planning and measurement activities.
- Conduct and support AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs/FAIRs), ensuring dimensional compliance and accurate reporting.
- Lead and perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, and uncertainty studies to validate measurement systems.
- Manage and maintain the calibration system for inspection and measurement equipment, ensuring traceability to national/international standards (NIST, ISO 17025).
- Support MRB and root cause investigations through advanced dimensional analysis and inspection reporting.
- Act as technical authority for inspection methods, advising inspectors and engineers on metrology practices.
- Partner with suppliers, design engineering, and customer quality representatives (e.g., PWC, RR) to resolve dimensional compliance issues.
- Provide training and mentorship on metrology practices, CMM programming, and calibration requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or Metrology preferred)
- OR an additional 3 years of specific work experience in lieu of a degree.
- 5 years of experience in aerospace quality, dimensional inspection, or metrology.
- Advanced proficiency with CMM programming (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, MODUS, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings.
- Experience with calibration systems management and traceability standards (ISO 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540).
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, laser scanners, height gauges, profilometers, etc.).
- Experience with FAIR/AS9102 documentation and compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Has superior knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with internal/external customers and embrace a customer focused approach.
- Excellent time management skills with ability to efficiently organize and manage multiple competing priorities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- ASQ Certification (CCT - Certified Calibration Technician, or CMI - Certified Mechanical Inspector).
- Experience supporting Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Boeing, or Airbus quality/FAIR requirements.
- Familiarity with AS9100/AS13100 aerospace quality management standards.
- Experience in supplier quality or manufacturing quality engineering.
