General Summary:
Qualcomm IT is seeking a Senior IT Engineer to design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and automation across our multi-cloud environment. You will serve as a key contributor within our Cloud Account Management team; developing tooling, driving Infrastructure-as-Code practices, and delivering technical solutions that enable engineering teams to provision and operate cloud resources securely and efficiently. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong AWS fundamentals, software development skills, and the ability to deliver on high-visibility initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
This role requires full-time onsite work in San Diego, CA (5 days per week).
This position is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automation tooling for cloud account provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management across AWS (primary), Azure, and GCP
  • Own and improve Infrastructure-as-Code modules and pipelines that enable teams to deploy cloud resources consistently and securely
  • Provide technical guidance to internal engineering and IT teams on account structure, IAM patterns, networking, and workload placement
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting cloud infrastructure delivery, automated testing, and policy enforcement
  • Drive improvements to cloud governance automation including guardrails, compliance checks, and self-service capabilities
  • Develop and maintain scripting and tooling (Python, Bash, or similar) to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual intervention
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues, supporting incident response and root cause analysis when needed
  • Contribute to IAM strategy, security policy enforcement, and identity federation patterns aligned to enterprise security requirements
  • Support FinOps practices including tagging governance, cost allocation, and budget alerting
  • Collaborate with geographically distributed team members to ensure consistent service delivery and knowledge sharing
  • Document architectural decisions, onboarding procedures, and operational runbooks to support team scalability

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of IT-related experience with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering, or 5+ years without, with demonstrated progression in cloud engineering
  • Hands-on experience with AWS in production environments; working knowledge of core services including IAM, VPC, Organizations, Control Tower, and account management patterns required
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform preferred) including module development, state management, and multi-account provisioning patterns
  • Scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, or equivalent) with the ability to develop internal tooling and workflow automation

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent) for infrastructure delivery
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking fundamentals including VPC/VNet design and hybrid connectivity patterns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering teams and articulate technical recommendations

Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS certifications: Solutions Architect Associate or Professional
  • Working knowledge of Azure and/or GCP cloud platforms including account/subscription/project structures and identity management
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM platforms for request intake and workflow automation
  • Experience with cloud security tooling and frameworks (AWS Config, Security Hub, Azure Policy, or equivalent)
  • Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization
  • Experience working with provisioning automation platforms and self-service cloud account tooling

Minimum Qualifications:
• 3+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
OR
5+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor's degree.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$45.77 - $68.65
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
