About this Opportunity:

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will utilize your advanced professional expertise and experience to enhance and maintain the software products developed by Orion. You will operate as an AI-native engineer, having fully integrated AI tools and workflows into how you think, build, and ship - treating AI as a core force multiplier rather than an optional add-on. As we continue to evolve and live our Orion values, we are looking for someone to grow with us.

For External Candidates:
Candidates must work in-office at one of the following locations for at least 3 days per week: Omaha, NE; Lehi, UT.

In this role, you'll get to:
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and growth within the team, modeling curiosity and adaptability in the face of new challenges and technologies

  • Develop and maintain high impact product features

  • Create and design solutions for new features, subsystems, modules, systems or platforms that may be specific or cross-cutting in nature

  • Guide fellow team members in the code review process

  • Guide and provide clarity for fellow team members in delivering quality solutions

  • Ensure application quality by testing integrated features as well as writing test automation where appropriate

  • Ensure application safety by following secure coding best practices

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix product defects

  • Maintains a deep and intrinsic understanding of business use cases and objectives

  • Actively maintain a self-paced learning regimen to feed professional curiosity, with particular attention to the rapidly evolving AI tooling and capabilities landscape

  • Leverage AI tools and workflows throughout the development process - from ideation and architecture exploration to coding, debugging, testing, and code review - to accelerate delivery and improve quality

  • Evaluate and introduce emerging AI-powered tools and practices to the team, helping establish shared standards for effective AI-assisted development

  • Utilize source control to effectively manage delivery of work

  • Understand and operate the full lifecycle of the software platform, from coding to delivery and observation in production

  • Learn and adhere to team and company processes, standards, and procedures

  • Actively develop and maintain working relationships with team and department members

  • Participate in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Maintain and nurture an opportunistic mindset - proactively identifying ways to improve processes, tools, and outcomes rather than waiting for direction

  • Leads from the front lines in helping team to keep consistently delivering

We're looking for talent who:
  • Has deep knowledge of modern JavaScript or TypeScript using NodeJS.

  • Strong experience in C#, .NET, distributed programming, and building scalable enterprise applications.

  • Expertise with Entity Framework/EF Core and relational database design.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services for building and deploying modern applications.

  • Solid understanding of enterprise architecture and system design best practices.

  • Working knowledge of Angular and AngularJS for UI development and integration.

  • Has deep knowledge of the NodeJS ecosystem, including community idioms, popular packages, design patterns, documentation, internal workings and quirks

  • Understands React and related front-end libraries to create rich user experiences, keeping an eye on the changing ecosystem for opportunities and challenges

  • Has a working understanding of the web platform, and a strong understanding of the capabilities of web browsers and their role in relation to back-end software

  • Has knowledge of token-based AuthZ systems like OpenID-Connect and OAuth2

  • Has knowledge of the role of cryptography and certificates in modern application development

  • Has knowledge of the workings of computer networking, the OSI model, and the domain name system

  • Has an understanding of how to use CSS to style the front-end, including upcoming features and their adoption

  • Has knowledge of troubleshooting and debugging in all applicable contexts (front-end, back-end, database, platform)

  • Has an advanced knowledge of relational database technology SQL Server and/or Postgres, Comparative knowledge of other database technologies

  • Has understanding of common data lake and data processing technologies

  • Has expertise and the ability to quickly and deeply understand Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies such as: RDS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, SES, S3, API Gateway, CloudFront, EventBridge

  • Has knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and how to effectively develop and create them

  • Has day to day mastery of git for source control, as well as history and release management

  • Has familiarity with SDLC processes and systems, with the ability to guide them and provide constructive feedback

  • Has intrapersonal skills necessary for working in a team environment, including the development of working relationships and professional networking

  • Has wide understanding of various application architecture patterns

  • Has knowledge of a variety design patterns and development principles (like SOLID, DDD, CQRS)

  • Has proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar) as an integrated part of daily coding workflows - not as a novelty, but as a natural extension of how work gets done

  • Guides fellow team members in effective adoption and use of AI tools, raising the overall productivity floor of the team

  • Has a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Has a minimum of 15 years of experience

  • Owns and manages relationships with stakeholders directly and works effectively with people at all levels in an organization

  • Strong leadership experience, driving strategic initiatives and influencing decision-making

Salary Range:
