J.W. Harris Co. Inc. in Gainesville, GA seeks a Product Development Engineer to lead the design, development, and sustaining engineering of SMART/IoT-enabled products within the industrial sector, with a specific focus on the automated cutting, brazing, and welding industries. This role encompasses full product lifecycle management-from ideation through market launch-ensuring integration of advanced flow and pressure control technologies, embedded systems, and software algorithms. The engineer will work cross-functionally to deliver innovative, high-quality, and solutions that prioritize design-for-manufacturing principles (DFM).
  • Lead the design and development of SMART/IoT products, including electronic systems and control mechanisms for applications such as automated brazing and automatic manifold switchers.
  • Architect and implement embedded systems using 32-bit ARM Cortex microcontrollers (e.g., STM32 series) and high-resolution ADCs (e.g., ADS124 series).
  • Define and enhance software algorithms for flow and pressure control, ensuring optimal performance across.
  • Select and integrate flow sensors, pressure sensors, wireless modules, and actuators based on product requirements and cost.
  • Develop and present product electrical schematics, control system diagrams, digital specifications, and test protocols to hardware & software engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for hardware anomalies and system-level issues.
  • Benchmark competitive technologies and promote adoption of leading-edge innovations.
  • Prepare prototypes for field testing and coordinate with Product Management, Sales, and/or Marketing for deployment.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation. Document engineering changes and maintain accurate BOMs and master data.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support for existing regulator, manifold, and torch product platforms. Lead obsolescence management efforts and providing technical support to end-users and internal stakeholders such as: Product Management, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
  • Train end-users and internal teams on new technologies and systems.
  • Process Engineering Change Requests and maintain documentation in collaboration with AutoCAD/SolidWorks designers and documentation specialists.
  • Track and report on project milestones, savings, and performance metrics.

Job Requirements
  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Must have 5 years of experience as a Product Development Engineer or related.
  • Must have 5 years of experience with design, development and sustaining engineering of SMART/IoT products within the industrial sector;
  • Must have 5 years of experience entire product life cycle management, from ideation to market launch, specifically for Automated Cutting, Brazing, and Welding Industry;
  • Must have 5 years of experience flow and pressure control technologies, including integrating pressure and flow sensors;
  • Must have 5 years of experience design and development of electronic systems and control mechanisms for products such as Automated Brazing and Automatic Manifold Switcher;
  • Must have 5 years of experience defining, developing, and enhancing the software algorithms related to flow and pressure control for both current and future product offerings;
  • Must have 5 years of experience 32-bit ARM Cortex microcontrollers (such as the STM32 series) and 24-bit ADCs (like the ADS124 series);
  • Must have 5 years of experience with selection of critical off the shelf components like flow and pressure Sensors, wireless modules, microcontroller, actuators considering product requirement, longevity, latest technology and cost perspective and define Product architecture;
  • Must have 5 years of experience with sustaining engineering, obsolescence management, and providing techno-commercial support to Sales, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to ensure continuous production.
  • In the alternative, employer will accept a Master's degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or closely related field and 3 years of experience listed above.
