Modelling Simulation and Data Analyst roles share overlapping skills in data handling and analytical thinking. However, Modelling Simulation focuses on creating and testing models to predict system behavior, often in engineering contexts. Data Analysts interpret data to inform business decisions. Both roles require strong technical skills, but their applications and industries differ significantly.

How to become a modeling and simulation engineer?

To become a modeling and simulation engineer, typically a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field is required, with advanced roles often requiring a master's or Ph.D. in a specialized area. Skills in programming languages such as C++, Python, or MATLAB, along with knowledge of simulation tools and systems modeling, are essential. Gaining experience through internships, certifications, or project work can also improve job prospects in this field.

Is modeling simulation a high paying job?

Modeling and simulation jobs are generally considered well-paying, especially for roles requiring advanced technical skills, programming, and knowledge of specialized software. Salaries vary based on experience, industry, and location, but professionals in this field often earn above average wages compared to other engineering or technical roles.

Job description

Why This Role Is Critical

As the need for nuclear energy grows, the future couldn’t be brighter. Join our vital mission to create lasting solutions for our planet’s greatest challenges. In this role, you are ready to shape the future of clean energy and make a long-lasting global impact. With us, anticipate engaging and challenging projects that deliver innovative solutions and value-added technologies helping power more than 38 million North American homes.

What You’ll Do Day-To-Day

Serve as the neutronics lead for the BRW1 nuclear reactor, overseeing the reload and transition core designs. Perform calculations supporting Neutronics Inputs to Safety analyses that feed the licensing and regulatory compliance documents ensuring robust margins for shutdown, transients, and long-term operation. Analyze with uncertainty quantification, and generate neutronics power histories, the results of which are used by Loss of Coolant Accident analysis group, thermal-hydraulics team, and different other fuel performance teams. The analyses that are performed by this role support the startup physics testing, reactivity management, and operational guidance, while validating predictions against plant measurements. Responsibilities also include tasks that focus in enhancing the analysis methodologies, automating workflows, and supporting advanced/accident-tolerant fuel deployment. All tasks are carried out maintaining the QA-compliant processes while collaborating with utilities, regulators, and Framatome subject-matter experts to deliver safe, reliable, auditable, and efficient analyses. This position has a hybrid work schedule.

What You\'ll Bring

Ph.D degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics or related field; or Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics or related field, and 2 years of experience.

Experience or education must include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of related nuclear core design standards, techniques, and criteria in reactor core design and nuclear analysis using industry codes, specifically with respect to Light Water Reactors;
  • Modelling physical components using numerical models and performing analyses of various physical phenomena in support of nuclear core design, and nuclear analysis;
  • Experience in creating and manipulating nuclear industry numerical models e.g. MCNP, ANC, PRISM, NEMO, PANACEA, CASMO, SIMULATE or other nuclear industry code;
  • Using complex models of physical phenomenon and alter/manipulate those models to various postulated changes in geometry and operational boundary conditions; and
  • Independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard technical techniques, procedures, and technical criteria using sound judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications
Total Rewards Package
  • Salary: $120,723 - $125,000, and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
  • Health & Wellness: Multiple medical plan options, dental & vision coverage, life insurance, long- and short-term disability, and optional supplemental plans (critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, dependent life).
  • Retirement: 401(k) with employer match.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to 3 weeks of vacation, 8 sick days, and 13 paid holidays annually.
  • Extra Perks: Lifestyle spending account, employer paid mental health support, education reimbursement, professional development opportunities, adoption assistance, parental leave, and employee assistance programs.
