Job description

Power Coaches are the summer counselors and stars of Power Scholars Academy! Power Scholars is a half-academic, half-enrichment, all fun summer experience! If you have the desire to help make this summer an incredible learning experience for students grade 2-8 then consider applying for Power Scholars!
The Power Coach will work closely with teachers to implement academic enrichment programs for middle or elementary school students. Specific duties include supporting the development of relevant lessons; ensuring academic and social development of youth; working with teachers to identify youth needs and create instructional plans; monitoring youth progress and making recommendations for adjustments; working to create a safe and productive learning environment; and supervising youth in day-to-day activities as well as special functions, such as field trips. The Power Coach will also take the lead on running fun enrichment activities such as sports, STEM, cooking, arts and more! Power Coaches guide the academic and social development of youth, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. Supporting students in discovering enrichment activities in Arts, Nature, Physical Activity, STEM, Nutrition Education, Career, and College.
The goal of this program is to increase students' academic success and boost self-confidence, while also engaging families in the education process. The summer learning program is designed to address summer learning loss for children in low-income households living in urban communities and thereby enhance overall youth development, academic performance, and graduation rates.
Responsibilities:
  • To support student in creative and engaging enrichment and physical activities for a 6-week intensive program
  • To run and oversee enrichment activities with the group of students during Enrichment Blocks.
  • To monitor scholars and assistant teachers during activities.
  • To communicate any questions or concerns to the Teacher or Administrative staff.
  • To engage in Power Scholar Program activities and events.
  • Implementing collaborative teaching strategies with academic and/or enrichment teachers to a cluster of scholars
  • Supporting the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons
  • Ensuring the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program
  • Serving as a role model for an assigned group of scholars
  • Working with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars
  • Monitoring scholars' educational and social progress and making necessary recommendations for adjustments
  • Supporting classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment
  • Maintaining attendance and supporting classroom procedures/functions
  • Supervising scholars during classroom transitions, lunch, snack, recess, etc.
  • Assisting in field trips and special events
  • Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline
  • Empowering scholars to make positive choices and serving as a role model

Qualifications
Be willing and able to obtain CPR & First Aid Certifications, or currently hold
Able to bring a patient, caring, responsible, flexible and positive attitude to work
Position Specifics:
Staff Training will run June 29 and 30 from 9am-3pm at West High School
Power Scholars runs from July 6th through August 14th Monday through Friday from 8am-2:30pm daily; with weekly field trips on Friday.
Staff need to be able to work the full duration of the summer.
Program will take place at West High School in Manchester, NH
Pay range is $14-16 an hour
