PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Pool Coordinator is responsible for providing support/aide in the supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp aquatic setting. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Aides in supervision of a group of children in a summer day camp aquatic environment.
  • Tracks and records all conducted swim tests and maintains weekly records
  • Greet summer camp busses and assist with loading/unloading campers, lifejackets, wristbands
  • Provide additional supervision from the pool deck
  • Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, risk management and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool facilities including checking of hazards around pool deck and entrances, lifejackets, aquatic equipment, camper gear etc
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school Student or Graduate/Equivalent
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp or aquatic setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: aquatics, childcare
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
  • Ability to attend mandatory summer day camp and/or pool coordinator trainings

WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible work schedule required. Work schedules may vary per the needs of specific summer camp aquatic sites.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping
  • Exposure to the outdoor elements
