Job Summary:
AVT Simulation is a small business specializing in systems integration and modeling and simulation, located in Orlando. The Principal Engineer will oversee the technical design, development, and execution of engineering projects, while managing an engineering team to ensure compliance with project specifications and schedules.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Own the technical solution design and architecture for assigned programs
โ€ข Provide technical supervision across all phases: design, development, testing, and production/operation
โ€ข Lead technical decision-making and establish engineering best practices
โ€ข Conduct design reviews and ensure technical quality across deliverables
โ€ข Resolve complex technical challenges and provide innovative solutions
โ€ข Mentor and develop engineering talent across the team and organization
โ€ข Estimate work packages to assist the Project Manager in developing schedules
โ€ข Manage the engineering team on behalf of the Program Manager
โ€ข Collaborate with Lead Engineers to ensure efficient workflow and progress
โ€ข Ensure adherence to cost estimates and budget constraints
โ€ข Drive delivery within required schedules and milestones
โ€ข Verify compliance with DoD requirements and specifications
โ€ข Coordinate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, software development, hardware engineering, and quality assurance

Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelorโ€™s or higher degree in engineering (Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Simulation, or related disciplines).
โ€ข 10+ years of experience in development of hardware or software related to modeling and simulation or relevant project domains.
โ€ข 10+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including leadership roles.
โ€ข Strong background/experience in systems design and documentation experience required.
โ€ข Experience with DoD acquisition processes, standards, and compliance requirements.
โ€ข Demonstrated success managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
โ€ข Experience with distributed simulation architectures and training systems.
โ€ข Familiarity with DoD standards, Mil-spec requirements.
โ€ข Direct experience qualifying FFS Level D or FTD Level 3 training devices within a National Aviation Authority.
โ€ข Experience with international deployment logistics.
โ€ข Experience with flight simulation systems or rotorcraft technologies.
โ€ข Knowledge of visual system qualification criteria, motion/controls cueing, and aural cueing performance requirements.
โ€ข Extensive knowledge of hardware and software systems integration.
โ€ข Deep understanding of modeling and simulation principles and methodologies.
โ€ข Proficiency with simulation architectures (e.g., HLA/RTI, DIS, TENA, FOM/SOM development).
