What does a modelling analyst do?

A modeling analyst develops and uses mathematical and computational models to simulate real-world systems or processes, often to support decision-making or optimize performance. They analyze data, create simulations using tools like MATLAB or Python, and validate models to ensure accuracy, typically working in industries such as engineering, finance, or defense.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Modeling Simulation Analyst can potentially earn $10,000 or more per month with extensive experience and specialized skills in modeling, simulation software, and data analysis. High-paying roles in this field often require strong technical expertise, certifications, and the ability to work in industries like defense, aerospace, or manufacturing, but may not always require a formal degree if skills are demonstrated through experience and training.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Modeling Simulation Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modeling Simulation Analyst, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree such as in engineering or applied mathematics. Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Arena), programming languages (such as Python or C++), and familiarity with data analysis tools are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These abilities are vital for developing accurate models, interpreting complex data, and clearly presenting findings to support strategic decision-making.

What is a modeling and simulation analyst?

A modeling and simulation analyst develops and uses computer models to replicate real-world systems or processes for analysis and decision-making. They often work with specialized software, such as MATLAB or Simulink, and require strong analytical skills and knowledge of systems engineering or related fields.

How does a Modeling Simulation Analyst typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Modeling Simulation Analysts frequently work alongside engineers, data scientists, and project managers to develop and refine simulation models. Collaboration often involves gathering system requirements, validating model assumptions with subject matter experts, and presenting simulation results to stakeholders. Clear communication is essential, as analysts must translate complex simulation data into actionable insights for decision-makers. Regular team meetings and iterative feedback are common to ensure the models accurately reflect real-world scenarios and project goals.

Is 3D modeling a high paying job?

Modeling Simulation Analysts often work with 3D modeling tools and simulations, and salaries can vary based on experience, industry, and location. Generally, roles requiring advanced technical skills and specialized software tend to offer higher compensation, especially in sectors like aerospace, automotive, or defense. However, 3D modeling alone is not always among the highest-paying jobs without additional expertise or certifications.

What are Modeling Simulation Analysts?

Modeling Simulation Analysts are professionals who use mathematical models, simulations, and analytical techniques to study complex systems and predict their behavior. They help organizations make informed decisions by evaluating scenarios, testing hypotheses, and optimizing processes through virtual models. These analysts work in various industries, including defense, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation, to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support planning and strategy. Their work often involves collaboration with engineers, scientists, and decision-makers to interpret simulation results and implement solutions.

Job Description:

The Aircraft Simulation team turns frontier autonomy into mission-ready aircraft. We own the commit-to-flight pipeline-deterministic aircraft and mission simulation, HITL/SITL integration, CI/CD, and tooling for automated flight qualification testing. Our goal is simple: make AI fly-safely, reliably, and fast.

As a Staff Modeling & Simulation Engineer, you will be dedicated to Shield AI's next-generation aircraft program, contributing to our emergent modeling & simulation tooling. You'll design, build, and scale novel aircraft subsystem models, develop infrastructure that enables robust automated testing for our next generation XBAT product line, and conduct system performance analysis.

What you'll do:
  • Develop models and infrastructure for the integrated simulation pipeline in C++.
  • Design deterministic, high-performance simulation tools capable of faster-than-real-time execution for development, testing, and release.
  • Implement test scenarios and write unit, system, and regression tests.
  • Collaborate across autonomy, embedded, GNC, and test engineering to ensure the simulation mirrors real aircraft behavior and mission scenarios.
  • Contribute to platform-agnostic simulation tooling to accelerate current and future aircraft design and development efforts.
  • Perform verification and validation (V&V) analysis activities on modeling tools.
  • Conduct system performance analysis and generate reports and visualizations.
  • Utilize best practices in C++, simulation architecture, and performance engineering.
Required qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Aerospace, Robotics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in simulation software development, with emphasis on modern C++ (C++17 or later) and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of rigid-body dynamics, kinematics, aerodynamics, and sensor mechanics.
  • Proven experience developing or integrating simulation systems for robotics, aerospace, and/or autonomous systems.
  • Ability to debug complex build and runtime environments (CMake, package management, logging, and profiling tools).
  • Experience with software testing tools (GTest, etc.)
  • Experience with simulation V&V.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across software, hardware, and systems disciplines.
  • Ability to obtain a S//SAR level security clearance desired.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Grasp of real-time and deterministic software design, including multi-threading, synchronization, and memory management.
  • Experience with DevOps-integrated simulation workflows, including CI/CD and automated hardware testing environments.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis, test automation, or simulation orchestration.
  • Familiarity with aircraft and flight physics modeling.
