What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a modeling simulation analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modeling Simulation Analyst, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree such as in engineering or applied mathematics. Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Arena), programming languages (such as Python or C++), and familiarity with data analysis tools are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These abilities are vital for developing accurate models, interpreting complex data, and clearly presenting findings to support strategic decision-making.

How does a modeling simulation analyst typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Modeling Simulation Analysts frequently work alongside engineers, data scientists, and project managers to develop and refine simulation models. Collaboration often involves gathering system requirements, validating model assumptions with subject matter experts, and presenting simulation results to stakeholders. Clear communication is essential, as analysts must translate complex simulation data into actionable insights for decision-makers. Regular team meetings and iterative feedback are common to ensure the models accurately reflect real-world scenarios and project goals.

What is a modeling simulation analyst?

Modeling Simulation Analysts are professionals who use mathematical models, simulations, and analytical techniques to study complex systems and predict their behavior. They help organizations make informed decisions by evaluating scenarios, testing hypotheses, and optimizing processes through virtual models. These analysts work in various industries, including defense, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation, to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support planning and strategy. Their work often involves collaboration with engineers, scientists, and decision-makers to interpret simulation results and implement solutions.

What is the difference between Modeling Simulation Analyst vs Data Analyst?

Job description

Simulation Engineer, Lead

The Opportunity:

You build the synthetic worlds that help warfighters decide faster. As a Lead Simulation Engineer, you'll fuse Program of Record (PoR) sims, including NGST, AFSIM, AFMSTT, and SAFESIM, with realtime engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine as well as NVIDIA Omniverse to deliver credible, interoperable LVC environments for IndoPacific missions. You'll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and partner with operators to turn mission questions into datadriven outcomes.

What You'll Work On:

  • Lead architecture and technical delivery of missiongrade simulation solutions spanning AFSIM, AFMSTT, SAFESIM, and NGST and realtime engines such as Unity, Unreal, and Omniverse, ensuring scale, fidelity, and interoperability.

  • Integrate DIS, HLA, TENA, USD, and Omniverse pipelines for multidomain LVC exercises, wargames, and operational analysis.

  • Translate operational concepts, including CONOPS, TTPs, MOP, and MOE into scenarios, models, and data flows aligned to IndoPacific mission threads.

  • Own software quality and implement DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and model validation against ground truth.

  • Mentor and grow a highperforming team to drive backlog, estimation, and delivery against mission milestones.

  • Engage with stakeholders across Service components such as air, maritime, cyber, and space to capture needs and demonstrate outcomes.

  • Advance performance and realism via GPU acceleration, multinode orchestration, and sensor or weapon modeling.

  • Support capture and proposals with credible technical volumes, BOEs, and demos that reflect IndoPacific realities.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • Experience with PoR sims such as NGST, AFSIM, AFMSTT, and SAFESIM, including integrating models, scenarios, and data sources

  • Experience with Unity and Unreal Engine with C# or C++

  • Experience with realtime or nearrealtime simulations

  • Experience with Git, including GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, and containerization such as Docker or Kubernetes

  • Experience with modeling and analysis translating operational needs into measurable outcomes such as MOP and MOE, scenario design, and validation

  • Knowledge of HLA, DIS, and TENA LVC architectures and gateway translation

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics and 2+ years of experience in data engineering, or 5+ years of experience in data engineering in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience bridging AFSIM with Unity, Unreal, or Omniverse and composing multiengine pipelines

  • Experience with NVIDIA Omniverse, including USD pipelines, Render and Kit, and SimReady assets for collaborative simulation workflows

  • Experience with GPU and HPC optimization such as CUDA and multiGPU orchestration, physicsbased modeling, or synthetic sensor simulation

  • Experience with Agile leadership, including Scrum and Kanban, backlog management, and mentorship of midlevel engineers

  • Experience with Cloud and edge deployment such as AWS, Azure, and GovCloud/IL environments, IaC, including Terraform, and secure networking

  • Knowledge of RMF or STIG and secure software practices for classified environments

  • Knowledge of JADC2, IndoPacific operational context, and mission thread decomposition

  • TS/SCI clearance

  • Master's degree preferred; Doctorate degree in Engineering or Computer Science a plus

  • DoD 8570 Baseline, NVIDIA Omniverse, Unity, or Unreal Certification

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
