Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineerto join our team in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) organization is dynamic and growing with a leadership team focused on attracting and developing top talent in support of critical missions for national defense involving Directed Energy. This position will plan, develop and maintain complex analysis and simulation models/tools to evaluate and improve total system architecture and performance and address complex defense problems ensuring mission success.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including mid-level and senior level modeling and simulation systems engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine and/or optimize overall system mission performance

  • Develops and maintains analysis tools of varied fidelity including modeling and simulation tools to predict performance against evolving threats of current and future defense systems Develops, refines and documents key algorithm capabilities to support various DoD customers

  • Conducts analysis of multiple targets discrimination for survivability, vulnerability, and susceptibility into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Performs systems analyses of the existing system architecture in conjunction with new technologies and concepts for improvements to be considered for future architectures

  • Develops and maintains accurate and reliable models to support directed energy and space-based applications utilizing industry standard software and tools

  • Collaborates with engineers and subject matter experts to gather data, validate models, and ensure accuracy of simulations

  • Conducts simulations to analyze system performance, identify potential issues, and propose improvements

  • Generates reports and present findings to stakeholders, providing clear and concise explanations of complex technical concepts

  • Stays updated with the latest advancements in modeling and simulation techniques for electro-optical systems and recommend process improvements accordingly.

  • Assists in the development of new methodologies and tools to enhance modeling and simulation capabilities within the organization.

  • Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements

  • Assists in the development of requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare, and other electromagnetic systems and electromagnetic components

  • Supports development and validation of electromagnetic requirements for electrical systems, electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects, and structures Assists architecture definition to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms

  • Defines and conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements

  • Supports product development throughout lifecycle through root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support as requested

  • Supports project management by providing statement of work (SOW), budget, schedule, and other required inputs, and by reporting project status

  • Supports proposal writing to assist business development efforts


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Experience in modeling & simulation systems engineering

  • Experience with modeling and simulation software development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Master's degree or higher

  • Experience in modeling and simulation for electro-optical systems

  • Experience in using industry-standard software and tools for modeling and simulation, such as MATLAB, Python, or Java
