Position: DEVSECOPS Systems Engineer (Mid-Senior)


Nature of Role: Are you a highly experienced Systems Engineer (10-15 years) ready to integrate advanced DevSecOps and Digital Engineering practices into mission-critical Undersea Warfare (USW) systems for the DoD?

We are seeking a leader who can masterfully combine the security, speed, and automation of DevSecOps with the technical precision of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Your core mission will be to ensure the secure, continuous design, development, integration, and delivery of capabilities for the US Navy, transforming real-world needs into validated, resilient technical specifications.


Responsibilities:

  • As a Systems Engineer specializing in DevSecOps, you will:
  • Drive the adoption and maturity of DevSecOps pipelines and tooling within the USW system development environment, focusing on automated security, quality, and compliance checks.
  • Design and develop engineered systems using Systems Modeling Language (SysML) models and frameworks, ensuring security and operational requirements are verifiable throughout the digital thread.
  • Integrate DevSecOps principles with MBSE and Agile methods to streamline the entire system engineering life cycle, from requirement definition to continuous deployment.
  • Utilize your expertise in systems engineering, modeling, simulation, data analysis, and software development to implement state-of-the-art capabilities.
  • Lead technical tasks, provide mentorship, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (including Cyber, Software, and Test) to turn requirements into secure, deployable actions.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 10-15 years of experience in systems engineering, with a minimum of 5+ years focusing on systems engineering, integration, and testing.
  • DevSecOps Expertise: Strong, demonstrable experience with DevSecOps principles, methodologies, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline development.
  • Life Cycle Expertise: Proven experience across the entire system engineering life cycle (Requirements, Design, Development, Integration, Testing, and Deployment).
  • MBSE/Digital Engineering: Hands-on experience with MBSE and digital engineering tools and processes.
  • Modeling Tools: Proficiency with MBSE tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, Cameo, Magic Draw, or IBM Rhapsody.
  • Frameworks: Ability to use UML, SysML, and UAF modeling and architecture frameworks.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Agile methodology and substantial software development experience relevant to systems design.
  • Security Clearance: Must possess an active Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Security Focus: Direct experience with cybersecurity, risk management, and/or software certification processes (e.g., RMF, Authority to Operate - ATO).
  • Software Leadership: Experience as a software architect or leading DevSecOps toolchain implementations.
  • Project Management: Experience with Agile project management and scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe).
  • Certifications:
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification.
  • OCSMP Model Builder Fundamental Certification.
  • Advanced Education: A Master's degree in a S.T.E.M. field.

Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (S.T.E.M) field


Work Location: NAVAL UNDERSEA WARFARE CENTER NEWPORT AD-HOC TELEWORK (<10%).
