Job description

About This Role

The Director, Risk Intelligence and Analytics is responsible for delivering strategic, data‑driven insight that strengthens Biogen’s global biopharmaceutical manufacturing and supply network. This role systematically monitors and interprets external and internal signals across GMP/CMC, manufacturing science & technology, engineering standards, quality systems, EHS, supply chain, and advanced manufacturing to enable proactive decision‑making, risk management, and long‑range network strategy. As a director‑level analytics leader, this role owns the end‑to‑end intelligence and analytics pipeline—defining questions, integrating data sources, building repeatable analysis, and translating complex findings into clear executive narratives and recommendations. The Director partners closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, CMC, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure risks are identified, insights are actionable and recommendations aligned to operational priorities.

This is a hybrid role to be based at our Headquarters in Cambridge, MA.

What You’ll Do
  • Translate complex technical and regulatory topics into clear executive briefings, highlighting operational implications, risks, opportunities, and required actions.
  • Develop and maintain a forward‑looking risk intelligence landscape scanning process for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, process technology, engineering, GMP expectations, and supply chain resilience; convert insights into decision‑ready recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Lead quantitative and qualitative analyses (trend, scenario, sensitivity, benchmarking) to assess risk and inform decisions for network strategy, capacity planning, and manufacturing investments.
  • Build and govern a portfolio of dashboards that integrate data across manufacturing performance, quality, deviations/CAPA, supply, and engineering reliability, ensuring data quality, definitions, and traceability.
  • Monitor emerging manufacturing technologies and practices (e.g., digital manufacturing, automation, advanced analytics, continuous manufacturing where applicable) and assess readiness, value, and adoption pathways for Biogen sites and partners.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define key questions, prioritize analyses, and align on interpretations and decisions.
  • Develop and deliver high‑impact materials for PO&T leadership (executive summaries, quarterly landscape reports, and rapid‑response briefs).
  • Provide analytics and decision support for strategy reviews, business cases, and investment governance (e.g., ROI/NPV/IRR, total cost modeling, and trade‑off analyses) for manufacturing and engineering initiatives.
  • Establish standards for analytical rigor (methods, assumptions, documentation) and lead peer review of analyses and narratives to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment by facilitating structured discussions and workshops that convert insights into plans, owners, and timelines.
  • Continuously improve intelligence and analytics processes (data acquisition, automation, taxonomy, and reusable templates) to increase speed, repeatability, and impact.
Who You Are

You are a visionary with a strong analytical mind, capable of making data‑driven decisions that resonate across the organization. You possess a deep understanding of manufacturing dynamics within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry and thrive in a role that demands strategic thought leadership. Your communication skills are impeccable, allowing you to distill complex concepts into clear, actionable plans. You have high learning agility, comfortable with ambiguity, and adept at facilitating groups with diverse perspectives. In essence, you are a continuous learner, always looking for opportunities to innovate and improve, and are driven by the impact you can make beyond your immediate scope.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience in biopharmaceutical technical operations (e.g. manufacturing, CMC, manufacturing sciences quality, engineering, supply chain, regulatory or operational excellence), including significant experience in data analysis and analytics.
  • Deep understanding of GMP manufacturing operations (e.g., batch record execution, deviations, CAPA, change control, validation) and the data generated across shop floor, quality, and supply processes.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts and standards (e.g., automation, utilities, maintenance/reliability, process equipment, EHS‑by‑design) and how engineering choices impact compliance and performance.
  • Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end supply chain principles including experience with external manufacturing ecosystems (e.g., CMOs), regulatory expectations, and industry best practices;
  • Ability to synthesize external signals into actionable internal guidance.
  • Proven ability to design and execute analytics strategies (data sourcing, governance, KPI definitions, dashboarding, advanced analysis) for the biotechnology industry.
