Job description

Who We Are Looking For
The Enterprise Data and AI Office is seeking an experienced, strategic, and execution-oriented Data Governance Leader to help advance the firm's enterprise Data Governance and Data Quality Management frameworks. This role will play a key leadership role in strengthening governance practices, enhancing control effectiveness, and supporting sustainable compliance with regulatory expectations.

Why this role is important to us
This position is part of the Enterprise Data Governance leadership team within the Chief Data and AI Office. The role is primarily focused on leading the design, enhancement, and implementation of data governance policies, standards, control frameworks, and operating models that align with regulatory expectations, industry practices, and the firm's risk management objectives.
The successful candidate will serve as a senior subject matter lead and primary point of contact for executive governance forums, internal audit reviews, and regulatory requests related to data governance, data quality management, BCBS 239 compliance, and broader data management controls.
Success in this role will be measured through effective governance oversight, improved data quality outcomes, sustainable risk reduction, and continued maturation of the firm's data governance risk and control environment.

What you will be responsible for
Define, maintain, and continuously enhance enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, control procedures, and operating model frameworks.
Support implementation of enhanced governance controls across critical data governance capabilities, including Critical Data Element cataloging, data ownership, data lineage, and CDE data quality management aligned to BCBS 239 risk data aggregation and risk reporting expectations.
Lead the expansion and integration of data governance policies with related control frameworks, including records retention, data minimization, data classification, data protection, resiliency, model risk management, and AI governance.
Advise senior management on data governance priorities, maturity roadmaps, operating model design, and implementation strategies.
Partner with lines of business, corporate functions, and technology teams to define target-state governance capabilities aligned with enterprise standards and regulatory expectations.
Serve as an enterprise data governance lead for internal audit requests, regulatory inquiries, examinations, and management action plan responses.
Monitor emerging regulatory expectations and translate requirements into practical governance enhancements. Ensure regulatory observations, issues, and findings are converted into sustainable policy, process, and control improvements.
Lead the development and execution of data governance regulatory remediation initiatives, including issue analysis, solution design, implementation planning, evidence development, and closure readiness.
Present data governance strategy, implementation progress, risk themes, and remediation status to executive management, governance committees, auditors, and regulators.
Define and maintain data governance KPIs, KRIs, and maturity measures used to assess the effectiveness of enterprise data governance programs and control outcomes.

What we value
These skills and capabilities will help you succeed in this role:
Strategic thinker with strong regulatory acumen and the ability to connect governance requirements to practical business outcomes.
Exceptional executive communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
Ability to influence outcomes across complex, matrixed organizations without direct authority.
Proven track record leading enterprise-wide transformation, governance, or regulatory remediation initiatives.
Strong governance, risk management, control design, and execution discipline.
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with regulators, auditors, executive management, and senior governance forums.
Experience defining, implementing, and sustaining data governance operating models across business, technology, and control functions.
Experience with BCBS 239 risk data aggregation and risk reporting standards, controls, and regulatory expectations.

Education & Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Risk Management, Business/Finance, or a related discipline; master's degree preferred.
8+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality management, risk management, regulatory remediation, or related disciplines.
Significant experience leading enterprise governance, data management, or control programs within a global financial services institution or similarly regulated environment.
Experience supporting regulatory examinations, audit reviews, issue remediation, and management action plan execution.
Demonstrated experience developing governance policies, standards, control frameworks, procedures, and enterprise operating models.
