About the Teamย 

The Exterior Systems and Lighting Team within Scout is a very exciting and dynamic group to be a part of. Our team works on components you see on the exterior of the car. In this role, you will specifically be working on exterior Bumper components.ย ย 

What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Responsible for the management of the team responsible for design and release of lighting (interior and exterior), glazing, wipe/wash systems as well as outside mirrors from concept to production. Ensuring appropriate vehicle connection points both mechanical and electrical are present in the base truck and SUV vehicle architectures.ย 
  • Participate in and/or lead development of RFQ packages, tech reviews, and supplier selection.ย 
  • Hire, train and develop a highly skilled and competent team to deliver commodities on time and on cost within the Scout process.ย ย 
  • Lead Product Development Team(s) to collaborate cross functionally across Scout internal functions, and suppliers to set design direction, and lead development, packaging, and execution of unique Scout accessories to bring them to market.ย 
  • Contribute to the development of product specification books, test plans, DVP&R, DFMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Assurance requirements.ย 
  • Ensure the team's progress to design components and review groups progress to create 3D math models (CAD), complete 3D packaging, and validate with analytical models (FEA, CFD, etc.) to fulfill functional and design requirements, and ensure compatibility, using Design Rules, Regulatory items, and attributes, such as NVH, water management, craftsmanship, etc.ย 
  • Be a key member and decision maker within the technical leadership team and liaison with all Scout functional teams.ย 
  • Develop and maintain all component and subsystem requirements and specifications, including device transmittals and interface control documents (ICD).ย 
  • Be involved with managing resources efficiently including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners and people.ย 
  • Ensure all program targets, including Piece Cost, ED&D Budget, Timing, Weight, and Quality, are met.ย 
  • Track open issues and collaborate with other functional groups as needed to drive issues to resolution efficiently and effectively.ย 
  • Ensure on-time validation and adequate testing coverage for all requirements (component, system, and vehicle) is achieved and traceability is maintained for assigned systems and components.ย 
  • Conduct product evaluation and design reviews during prototype and pre-production development phases.ย 
  • Develop prototypes for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.ย 
  • Proactively stay attuned to new advancements, market trends, consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.ย 
  • Follow automotive industry design best practices, such as: Robust Engineering, Design for Manufacturability, and Design for Serviceability.ย 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan, with aย transition to Charlotte, NC.
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.ย 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time, including travel to the assembly plant for launch, Virtual Build events, supplier visits, tool shop visits, etc.ย 
  • Travel: Must be able to support International travel, as needed. Passport Required.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a relevant fieldย ย 
  • 10+ years of experience in body electrical and mechanical areas and relevant automotive assignments. Including all three phases of product development (Design, Test and Launch)ย 
  • Skilled in utilizing CATIA for designing and developing detailed partsย ย 
  • Strong technical skills and expertise in lighting components and systems, coupled with a 1st principles approach to problem solvingย ย 
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.ย ย 
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills.ย ย 
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this fieldย ย 
  • An ability to build strong working relationships with people across all organizational levels/functional teamsย ย 
  • Strong sense of teamwork, able to act as mentor to less experienced engineers.ย ย 
  • Experience working on Electric Vehicle programs desirable.ย ย 
  • Experience with Class-A surface development desirable.ย ย 
  • Comfort with the ambiguity and ability to thrive in fast-paced environmentsย

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
