Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Apprentice Technician at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for basic application of electronic theory, electrical testing procedures and related knowledge to lay-out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and electronic equipment.
Essential Functions
  • Help trace circuits of defective units, using knowledge of electronic theory and electronic test equipment to locate to the component level
  • Discuss layout and assembly problems with Electronics technicians and draw sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units
  • Assemble experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype model according to engineering instructions, technical manuals and knowledge of electronic systems and components and their functions
  • Analyze and recommend basic changes in circuitry or installation specifications to improve assembly, maintenance, test method or product performance
  • Set up standard test apparatus or contrive test equipment and circuitry and conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production products
  • Analyze and interpret test data and adjust, calibrate, align and modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance
  • Record test/alignment procedures and results, defects, repair history, numerical and graphical data and evaluate equipment and processes to ensure associate safety
  • Must possess the ability to lift up to 25 pounds while using safe lifting techniques
  • Compliance with HRD-003 (Garmin's Attendance Policy)
  • Compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements
  • Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards

Basic Qualifications
  • Pursuing an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology OR Vocational Certificate in Electronics Technology or related field
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to handle component level troubleshooting tasks
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds while using safe lifting techniques

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous electronics troubleshooting experience
