DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides Manager on Duty (MOD) support to personnel and departments throughout the store.
  • Interacts positively and professionally with internal and external customers and consistently upholds the co-op code of conduct and customer service standards.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the employees in The Common Market in accordance with the Market’s policies and procedures.
  • Empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.
  • Delegates responsibility and expects accountability and regular feedback from employees.
  • Consciously creates a workplace culture that is consistent with The Common Market’s guiding principles and values.
  • Appropriately communicates information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, text messaging, and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Provides effective performance feedback through employee recognition and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  • Reviews, approves, and corrects timecards when necessary.
  • Connects regularly with all department managers to improve storewide communications and operations between all departments.
  • Develops and maintains a preventative schedule of maintenance and repairs designed to promote longevity of existing infrastructure and prevent costly repairs.
  • Point of contact for the store to address immediate, unforeseen maintenance and repair issues as they occur.
  • Ensures repair work is completed and invoices are submitted to Finance within the same day.
  • Assists in creating an environment that encourages employees to work together as a team.
  • Ensures the store is bright and clean.
  • Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to all internal and external customers at all times.
  • Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
  • Others duties as assigned.
Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a retail management position. 
  • A minimum of one (1) year’s experience and familiarity with natural foods.
  • Demonstrates strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to have difficult conversations.
  • Has experience with management or leadership of others. 
  • Supports the co-op’s core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
  • Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Computer proficiency, familiarity with MS Office Suite, and experience with POS and receiving systems preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods at a time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Consistent and reliable access to transportation.
