Job description

Position Title: Graduate Support Program - High School Advancement Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Graduate Support

Position Purpose:

The Graduate Support Program High School Advancement Coordinator is a member of the Graduate Support team and reports directly to the Director of Graduate Support. They work closely with the Director of Graduate Support to assist and manage a comprehensive program of support for Hope Partnership students, graduates, and their families. The Graduate Support High School Advancement Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and implementing the school-wide high school and college prep culture. The high school prep culture educates students, graduates, and their families about high school opportunities in public, private, and charter schools following their attendance at Hope Partnership Middle School. The High School Advancement Coordinator is also responsible for guiding students and their families through the high school application process, and providing resources for secondary school success.

Graduate Support Program Department Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains the Hope Partnership Graduate Support Lounge in a positive, welcoming, motivating and professional atmosphere
  • Supports graduates through emergencies and unexpected occurrences
  • Assists with organizing department-wide events for graduates and families in order to build and maintain relationships with Hope Partnership for Education
  • Assists with departmental clerical work
  • Accompanies students on GS trips including high school fairs, college tours and field trips
  • Attends ongoing professional development trainings and seminars in collaboration with GS Director

High School Placement Responsibilities


  • Establish relationships with High School Admissions teams, for which the High School advancement Coordinator will act as the main point of contact

  • Facilitate the High school application process for Hope Partnership's 8th grade students
    • Collaborates with Director to develop personalized list of high schools for each 8th grader to apply to based on grades, interests, and goals for the future
    • Collaborates with Director in maintaining high school application tracker/database with all upcoming deadlines for applications, test dates, financial aid, interviews, high school open houses and shadow days
    • Meets individually with each 8th grade family and the GS Director to discuss high school options and recommendations
    • Assists 8th grade families in the completion of public, private and charter school admissions applications
    • Schedules shadow day and open house visits for 8th grade students
    • Coordinates guest speakers for middle school students on topics surrounding high school admissions information, as well as high school, college and career readiness
  • Prepares students for various high school admittance exams (HSPT, SSAT, etc.)
  • Coordinates with high school partners to schedule and proctor the HSPT to 8th grade students
  • Offers writing support for students as they complete application and scholarship essays
  • Maintains consistent communication with families throughout the high school application process to ensure all opportunities are met
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of the Great Philly Schools Fair
  • Coordinates 7th grade Universal Visitation Day, 7th Grade Practice Entrance Exams, and Mock Interview Workshops
  • Develops and teach weekly Graduate Support Explorer Classes for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades
    • Provide students with an overview of the high school application process
    • Ensure that students understand the differences between public, private and charter high schools
  • Educate students on post secondary possibilities surrounding college, trade school, and career

High School Transition Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain communication with all freshman graduates of Hope Partnership
  • Collaborate with the GS Director to coordinate quarterly progress meetings with high schools attended by Hope graduates
  • Ensure all freshman graduates are maintaining their end of the Graduate Support Program Alumni Contracts
  • Supervises weekly study halls during the academic year
    • Work individually with alumni to assist them with homework assignments, projects, and test preparation
    • Differentiate instruction to fit the needs of various learning styles
    • Coach alumni through their high school transition by aiding the development of organizational and communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Background knowledge of basic educational principles
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, energetic, and dynamic environment
  • Experience working with underserved and under resourced populations and communities
  • Organizational skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work within limited space conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, walk, see, hear, while being actively involved with the students and staff
