Job description

Quality Engineer (Cable Assemblies & Electrical Connectors) 

Summary:

Amphenol is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support highreliability cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and electrical connector systems used in oil & gas, industrial energy, and data center infrastructure environments. You will help ensure our products meet strict performance, environmental, and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing and supplier networks.

Qualifications - Education/Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.
  • 3+ years of quality engineering experience in cable assembly, wire harness, connector manufacturing, or electromechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of IPCA620 / WHMAA620.
  • Experience with FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, 8D, and rootcause methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and customer specifications.
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, pull-testers, hipot testers, and other electrical test equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting oil & gas, industrial energy, or data center infrastructure products.
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory compliance programs, including REACH, RoHS, and Conflict Minerals (CMRT) reporting.
  • Knowledge of certification requirements for hazardous and safety-critical environments, including UL, ATEX, and IECEx.
  • Experience with ruggedized or harsh-environment cable assemblies (subsea, topside, drilling instrumentation, refinery equipment).
  • Familiarity with connectors used in industrial, subsea, and high-reliability data center applications.
  • Certifications such as ASQ CQE, or Six Sigma Green Belt. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with IPCA620/WHMAA620, ISO 9001, UL, API, AS9100, and customer energysector quality requirements.
  • Support FAI, PPAP, qualification testing, and internal/external audits including UL, ATEX, IECEx reviews.
  • Provide handson quality support for soldering, crimping, overmolding, potting, highamp terminations, and highdensity cabling.
  • Lead rootcause analysis and CAPA using 5Why, Fishbone, 8D, DMAIC, FMEA.
  • Drive manufacturing improvements and support NPIs for subsea, refinery, downhole, and datacenter products.
  • Manage supplier quality, including PPAPs, CoCs, CMRTs, and supplier audits.

Manufacturing Support 

  • Provide quality engineering support on the production floor for electrical connector assembly, cable assembly, soldering, crimping, overmolding, shielding, potting, highamp power terminations, and highdensity data cabling.
  • Develop and maintain process flows, control plans, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), inspection test plans, and workmanship guidelines.
  • Partner with production and engineering teams supporting subsea, topside, refinery, downhole, and data center infrastructure assemblies.

Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action 

  • Lead investigations for internal rejects, supplier nonconformance, customer complaints, and field failures in highstress or hazardous environments.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions using 5Why, Fishbone, 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA methodologies.
  • Track and report reliability metrics, quality trends, and process capability (Cp/Cpk).

Continuous Improvement 

  • Drive initiatives to enhance product robustness, reduce defects, and improve manufacturability.
  • Work with engineering on NPIs for energy and data center applications in fast-track environment.

Supplier Quality 

  • Qualify and evaluate suppliers of wire, terminals, connectors, shielding materials, potting/overmold compounds, and electromechanical parts.
  • Review supplier PPAPs, CoCs, CMRTs, failure analyses, and corrective actions.
  • Manage supplier performance and participate in supplier audits.
