Mobile phone sales refer to the process of selling mobile devices, such as smartphones and feature phones, to customers through retail stores, online platforms, or telecommunication providers. Professionals in this role assist customers in selecting the right phone based on their needs, explain service plans, demonstrate device features, and handle transactions. They may also provide after-sales support and help customers with accessories or troubleshooting basic device issues. Mobile phone salespeople play a crucial role in helping consumers stay connected with the latest technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile phone sales representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mobile Phone Sales Representative, you need a solid understanding of mobile devices, sales techniques, and customer service, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and product catalog tools is typically required. Strong communication, active listening, and persuasive interpersonal skills help build trust with customers and close sales. These skills and qualities are vital for meeting sales targets, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining a competitive edge in the fast-paced retail environment.

Great company. Great people. Great opportunities.

If you'd like the chance to make your mark with the world's largest equipment rental provider, come build your future with United Rentals. As a Sales Associate on our General Rentals team, you'll embark on a structured training path designed to prepare you for a future role as an Outside Sales Representative. You'll work alongside industry experts who are eager to help you gain hands-on experience with our technical products while developing the relationship-building skills that drive customer success.

What you'll do: Begin your training at a local branch, shadowing both sales and operational roles to gain an inside-out understanding of the full equipment-rental lifecycle. Progress through a series of outbound sales campaigns that provide exposure to different construction verticals, varying customer spend levels, general vs specialty equipment rentals, and both new and existing customer segments.

Master key United Rentals sales tools, including our CRM, inventory management platforms, customer portal, and mobile applications. Learn proven sales methodologies to deliver solutions for our customers and drive revenue growth.

The average Sales Associate spends 4-6 months in the Sales Development Program (SDP) before promotion to an Outside Sales Representative (OSR), with the timeline dependent on market conditions and individual performance.
