Job description

The Division of Critical Care at Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a full time Cardiac intensivist to join its’ Division. The Division is now established in a 24-bed dedicated cardiac intensive care unit and the candidate will join a team of 8 cardiac intensivists.

The cardiac ICU cares for a growing population of infants and children with congenital and acquired heart disease.  The program currently performs approximately 400 cardiopulmonary bypass cases annually and has a growing cardiomyopathy/cardiac transplantation program that includes a Ventricular Assist Device program.  The institution has an active ECMO program that performs approximately 30 cases annually and has recently developed mobile ECMO capabilities.  The clinical services are comprised of a team-based model with an excellent collaborative network of peers from various cardiology areas of expertise (heart failure, interventional cardiology, imaging, electrophysiology, etc.) and 4 excellent cardiovascular surgical colleagues.

Clinical teams are supported with an outstanding group of APRNs providing 24/7 coverage.  PICU and Cardiology fellows all rotate through the unit as well as 3rd year categorical pediatric residents who also rotate in the CICU. There is an excellent opportunity for participation in multi-center collaborative initiatives as well as clinical research.  Those with significant QI or research experience will be given special consideration.  The ideal candidate will have received dual board certification in critical care/cardiology or received focused cardiac ICU training in addition to critical care training.  Faculty appointments are available through an affiliation with the University of Missouri-Kansas City and will be commensurate with experience.
